Your favourite bit

What is your favourite joke in Gavin and Stacey?

My favourite is when Nessa talks down the baby monitor to Neil the baby. It cracks me up, and I don't know why!

reply

Like all my fave bits it is from the Barn Dance ep, and is when Gav & Smithy are conferring about some grafitti on a toilet brush which Smithy thinks may refer to him. When Gav asks why Smithy responds "it says Smithy was 'ere". Kills me up every time.

In the second episode of the first series when Gavin and Stacey go to bed and Pam comes in saying "Your Dad's out for the count and I'm putting ear phones in...so really let yourselves go!"

Embarassing lines rarely get funnier than that.

I get a kick out of the third series when Nessa calls Neil, the baby, a good bloke. I find that hilarious for some reason. Another one is also in series 3 episode 5 when Gavin's parents arrive and he tells Stacey that both of his grandmothers are dead and Stacey says hers are too "there's lush "

Whenever Nessa mentions Prescott!

Bryn's stag-night for Gavin! Brilliantly funny! You could hear Bryn's seat creak when he sat down it was so quiet!

Also Bryn's reaction when he pulled off the suprise barn dance for Gwen!

"Charlie don't surf!"

Bryn singing James Blunt in the car

the way they all say, "Neil, the baby," or "the baby, Neil"

I'll stop cos I could go on all night....

"Coffee Darling?"
"Ahh. Cappuccino!"

reply

For me there are 2 favourite bits

1. First series when the Wests go down to Essex to meet the Shipmans, Pam opens the door and says "Hi, I'm Pam, Pamalarrr". Its just the way she says pamalarrr which cracks me up

2. Second series when smithy comes back from the driving range having just found out about nessa and then decides to propose to her, she says no and he turns around and says "Why not im a catch!"

it's not a comedy moment but when Bryn reads the letter on the wedding day.

Superb acting from Brydon.

Smithy pretending to be "the fat one out of G4" to impress a girl in a nightclub.
Smithy contemplating suicide.
Nessa calling baby Neil "a good bloke".
When they're all dancing in the living room in the Christmas Special.

There are so many others, I love this show. Smithy in particular makes me laugh out loud.

Actually, it's episode 2 of season 3 when they all dance in the living room. "House of Fun", right? Yeah, not in the Christmas episode. But one of my faves too. 😄

"Your only son has immigrated abroad to another country."

I'm still laughing!

Already mentioned here, but when Bryn reads Stacy the letter from her father for her wedding day. Very touching. Well acted scene. Could easily have been melodramatic or over the top. But it stayed sweet. Also, Gavin's toast to Stacy at the wedding reception. Awwwww. (Hip).

I also love the final episode when Nessa gets into the Hitch while wearing her wedding dress, turns to Gwen and tells her how much she means to her. So sweet. I also love the scene at the wedding when Dave Coaches calls it off and Nessa acknowledges that she does not really love him.

Yes, that was a nice moment, especially after all the cringes in s3 of Nessa being awful to/about Gwen.
