Breaking Bad Climax -- "Lifted" from "Maximum Overdrive?" (1986) (SPOILERS)

Stephen King wrote and directed Maximum Overdrive(1986) from his own short story ("Trucks.")

Evidently(King himself claimed) he was high on cocaine for most of the filming. It kinda shows. Its a pretty bad movie.

And the film rather stands as an indictment of King's "genius": prolific author that he is, and source of good-to-great movies (Carrie, The Shining, Shawshank, Misery, IT)...no genius could make something this bad -- indeed, the dialogue is worse than the action, which you wouldn't expect from a "great writer."

So.. bad movie.

But...Breaking Bad was inspired by it?

SPOILERS for the finale of Breaking Bad and for this movie:

Around the third act of Maximum Overdrive the "possessed and driverless trucks" that have laid siege to a North Carolina truck stop bring in some equally possessed reinforcements: a bulldozer and...a platform with a big machine gun mounted on a revolving platform.

The "rigged machine gun" returns for the finale of Breaking Bad...hidden by anti-hero Walter White in the trunk of a car, rigged so as to rise out of the trunk.

And in BOTH Maximum Overdrive AND Breaking Bad...once somebody triggers this "automatic weapon," it starts shooting in a spray circle, on its own, in a manner that kills a lot of people.

The weapon is just too directly LIKE the weapon in Breaking Bad to be a coincidence.

Unless...great minds think alike 30 years apart.

Walters weapon doesent "rise out of the trunk" so I question your accuracy on the rest of your post and on how similar these 2 things are.

Theres an automatic gun in Aliens too, you think BB stole that?
Isreal actually uses driverless bulldozers in its oppression of Palastine, do you think they stole the idea from Steven King?

reply

Hmm, well, OK.

I think what I would recommend is that the two scenes be put together on YouTube or something to see if my theory checks out.

But...I could be wrong...

PS. I honestly don't remember if the machine gun "rises out of the trunk" but it had to emerge somehow to shoot. Was it that once the trunk popped open, it started firing from a fixed position?

reply

As I remember it , it just shot through the side panel of the trunk , using a simple rotary to linear linkage similar to a windscreen wiper to move the gun around. activated by a garage door opener type radio switch.

Now if, he'd gone all out and used arduino chips , motion capture , servo's and a heat seeking camera using the radio tag to ensure he dint get targeted and just stood up straight in the room smiling while his enemies were picked off one by one.
... i'd be more impressed

As it was it was one of the stupidest and most unlikely to work plans ever put to film, with all variables totally out of his control

You show how intelligent you are with your inability to spell both "Israel" and "Palestine", not to mention lying and twisting "defense" of Israel's right to exist with "oppression".

Palestine, the only country that claims it is undergoing genocide when it has the highest birthrate of any country in the world.

reply

I dont think an inability to spell both "Israel" and "Palestine" shows a lack of intelligence.

I do however admit to a huge lack of knowledge on how that whole situation has come to be.
The sum of my knowledge is that Israel was created out of thin air , by someone , fairly recently as a "Home for the jews" ? , and since then then been , like , "moving the garden fence" whenever the neighbors weren't looking
as i understand it.

I really dont understand your last sentence , is that some sort of justification for genocide generally?

I'm also unsure why Israel seems to America's undying support whatever happens , and i suspect thats money related.

He was just as blasted on coke churning out that list of good-to-great works you listed: Carrie, The Shining, Shawshank, Misery, IT.

Must have been a better grade of coke those times....

It got to a point where he perpetually had cotton stuffed up his nose to prevent him from just bleeding all over the place and he was blacking out daily.

I'm sort of surprised he hasn't just dropped dead of a stroke yet given the heavy punishment and premature aging he's reported to have put his body through in that period.

But yeah, you're probably right. He probably had a run of bad coke that would explain this debacle. 😰
