After watching this show 'enough', I can't stand most of it anymore, and I only watch the Sheldon bits.
In the early seasons, those are the only things almost guaranteed to be 'different' than the predictable 'horndog' gags with the boring 'Howard' character, or the 'I can't speak without alcohol'-Raj-stuff.
Leondar and penny is just another 'will they hook up'-crap for females, so it's neither entertaining nor funny.
When there is a quirky, weird, out-of-this-world character that then somehow interacts with the 'regular' people of this world, that's the only time this show can really elevate to a really fun-to-watch and funny level.
It becomes more unpredictable, and thus more interesting, than the 'seen 1000 times already' 'unrealistic nerd romance' between a nasal-voice bulgy-eyed fish-face and some unrealistic, scrawny nerd that somehow can attract young women (although couldn't ever even dream of doing it in the first two seasons).
So when I want something unexpected and out-of-the-box, I watch the Sheldon parts.
The good thing about Sheldon is that he doesn't care too much about social conventions or norms, so he's able to tell women practical advice (which people don't dare do in real life), and he's able to ignore whatever 'shame' or 'guilt' he's supposed to be feeling after saying something 'not usually allowed'.
So in a way, he's a nerdy Tyler Durden; able to say things other people can't. Or sometimes maybe bit less in-your-face Larry David, perhaps.
