What was the point of 'The Chair'?

Those scenes were like a surreal dream or straight out of a really bad student film. What were the Coens thinking of? Why didn't the producers or whoever tell them to cut that rubbish?

Didn't you find it funny? The scene where Clooney reveals what it actually is that he was building made me laugh out loud.

Ever since my wife saw this movie, she's been bugging me to build her one of those chairs.

It's pretty much nothing but speed rails. You can head down to the Home Depot. Spend maybe $100, minus labor. The dildo's a little expensive, unless you're set up to mould hard rubber.

And that is how I saved them and became KING Dumbass!!!

reply

It's hilarious-we're expecting some big reveal, and then the dildo pops up.

I thought it was funny as hell because it was just so far removed from what I was expecting, when the truth is, I didn't know what to expect. The movie leads up to that with all of this secrecy around his "project" and it turns out to only be a sex chair.

It was even funnier when he was raging and trying to smash it up and the dildo kept popping up and flopping around! LOL!

It was funny because it's pretty much what the whole movie is. You think something major is going on, but in reality.....no, there isn't. Linda thinks the disc has all this CIA intel on it, but it's just Ozzies memoir and financial crap. Henry thinks he's being followed by someone important, only to have it turn out to be someone who serves him with divorce papers. The whole movie is giant set up, with strange and bizarre pay-offs. We don't know what he's building, but when we see him buying the supplies and working on it in the basement, the music gets very ominous. Only to have it be a sex chair with a dildo.

But the Clooney character is obsessed by sex - his wife and girlfriend even comment on it.

It was still funny to see what he had built. Linda seemed quite interested in it.....

christian gets it. The anti-climax (for lack of a better word) was the whole point.

Expiration dates are mere suggestions! Like late fees and traffic lights.

reply

lol yeah.....Pfarrer was supposed to be a sex addict who was actually being trailed by PI hired by his own wife (rather than by the CIA as he thought in his paranoia)...so when we see him in his basement constructing something secretly..it just turns out to be a sex toy..

I would love to own the chair

It was about the only part that made me laugh, because if I met a man from a dating site and he asked me to go to a room then I saw that, I would probably run out screaming, but as I was expecting her to do that she said she loved it.

Isn't it a bit dangerous to meet strange men online and go to their houses?

The gross one she met before but then she slept with him. What did she do about looking in his wallet?
