I half rooted for him at first, but I stopped rooting for him when he killed the 12 FBI agents, and especially the FBI agent's fiancee (who was a contradiction, smart and cautious at first, very naive and stupid in the end). From that time on I always saw him as a monstrous genius, and couldn't wait for his demise, which is why I was very satisfied with the ending.

Yes.
Light wasn't perfect, far from it, but his motives were mostly good, and he was doing an amazing service to humanity. And making the ultimate sacrifice by doing so.
The same way I rooted for Walter White. I wanted him to slip through almost every trap, but I definitely wanted the final episodes to see him get his comeuppance. Unlike Walter, though, I thought Light was a tool right from the start.
