What a piece of self-important drivel. The oh so empty hedonistic lives of the rich blokes. Yawn. Hard to care about (or even follow, sometimes) anyone in this meandering snoozefest. No wonder it came and sank without a trace, but i do wonder who the heck gave this an overall rating of 7.2 as of today. People have issues.
What i cant come to terms with is the lead guy from the band, "The Informers" what was his stint in the movie give us? maybe i'm not at the same 'intellectual levels' with the people who gave this movie a solid 8+ but i really failed to figure that out. did he suddenly realise his one-nights with underage kids and hence the victorious march at the end? the worst was the car scene with martin and graham...that was purely pathetic. the only salvageable character i thought was the hotel guy.there's so much i can go on about...dont think its worth it...
I agree with you all. It was a boring movie of no value. I think the story was chopped up and scattered in your face because it would be even more boring. Magnolia, for one example, tramples all over this movie. Napoleon Dynamite even tramples this movie.
Sorry, but the whole movie was dumb to me. Then again, I think David Lynch pseudo-intellectual movies are dumb too.
Four out of five doctors agree that I am actually crazy hot!! ;)~~
i agree with all of the above...even trough the actors played pretty good their parts this piece of sh... that some call movie was boring and not worth the time 2 see it...
This is an independent movie that never got a big enough budget to be made with all of the scenes. The left out scenes would've cost more to be put into the movie and an NC-17 rating. The director himself said that with all of the cut out scenes that would've given it a higher MPAA rating also would've made the movie more pieced together and understandable. This movie had great acting and yes it's more of an adult film, therefore it doesn't really need a plot.

I would very much like to see the full NC-17 Movie... This one completely confused the hell out of me. do you know where i could watch it?

Are you saying that many scenes were cut from the final release to give it an R rating, or because of budgetary constraints the additional scenes that would have made it NC-17 were never filmed in the first place?

I think i have aids now that I watched The Informers.
By the way the title is so ironic since I wasn't really informed about the plot, characters, etc. Such *beep* I can't believe Ellis had anything to do with the screenplay. Surely his dialog isn't that bad considering his past screenplays. What happened?

Have you read any BEE? Seriously, his dialogue is this bad in his novels. It's a part of his appeal as a writer. What happened is Ellis never wrote any of his past screenplays. The Informers is the first screenplay he as written based on his work. reply share
For me the dialogue isn't necessarily bad, the problem lies in the acting, direction, and definitely the editing. The car scene (for example) at the end felt forced b/c there wasn't enough connective tissue to lead us to that point and it really felt like such a weak moment, but if more of the scenes that were filmed had not been edited out, I feel like all of the storylines would have been much more dynamic. Although BEE is extremely polarizing and his dialogue is not for everyone so it's possible that you may just not like the way he writes his dialogue period.
Just wanted to hop on the "F--- The Informers" bandwagon. I'm not even an hour into it and it's boring as hell. Even Amber Heard naked every 10 minutes isn't enough to lift this thing up. It's just about a bunch of boring wealthy people who do drugs and have sex with people, which could be fun to watch, but this ain't. Pretentious doesn't even begin to cover it. I've seen episodes of Sesame Street with a more cohesive plot than this.

You essentially described the plot to every BEE novel. Don't get me wrong, I love his writing but it's all he writes about and it isn't as relevant as it was 20 years ago.

There's still a lot of people in real life in all parts of the world like the characters in this movie. It's such a shame because they're destroying their lives.

Do not pin this trash on Bret Easton Ellis at all! He originally started the script with Jarecki who was supposed to direct, but they replaced him with Jordan. Apparently the satirically absurd was sacrificed for the vapid and mundane as the script went from 150 pages to like 90.
This film adaptation completely chickened out on the supernatural elements of the book (vampires, possible aliens), and, ahem, the child's demise.... It would be virtually impossible for someone to pull off a BEE novel without some innerthought dialogue -although the Renfro/Rourke subplot was close- without sounding dull and appearing only at face value. Very much what this film is, nothing much going on behind the plastic.
But then again, that sort of is half of Ellis's point with the novel (actually all of his novels)....
