Seems like I'm in the minority. I think every one of their movies is pretty amazing considering how different they all are in theme / story / the roles each actor plays etc.
Puddle Cruiser is the weakest, but also was done basically on a budget that equaled whatever they had in their bank accounts
Super Troopers - Eh, everyone found out about BL from this movie and although it slows down a little bit towards the end it's a classic for sure.
Club Dread - Never understood why people don't like this one. I mean it's a spoof on horror films while being a pretty decent generic slasher film. What I love about it are all of the tiny jokes. There are so many "stop paying attention for a second and you miss them". I think that might be why it's so low on most people's lists. The jokes (especially Paxton who steals the show) are rapid fire and subtle unlike in most of their movies where the jokes are more of a "ongoing sketch comedy".
Beerfest - Really, this was probably the first one that I didn't love. It's a great comedy but it's more of an absurdist type. It is not silly like Super Troopers or subtle like Club Dread. It is just kind of all over the place (which works considering the nature of the film, but at times parts of it seem to had been written in to fill in some runtime). However again, they kind of just went almost abstract with the film and it fit the theme (the whole hallway scene with Lemme dressed in that weird clown out / Jay dressed as a blind monk with the goat etc. oh god that was awesome)
Slammon Salmon- Again, don't understand why people dislike this one. Although maybe you need to have been in the restaurant business to get a lot of the jokes (except the movie "Waiting" did it 100% better, not funnier,in capturing what being a server is like). However again, kind of like Club Dread, rapid fire jokes left and right but also mixed with long sketches (the repeated ballerina burns / every single moment of Michael Clark Duncan, etc)
Dukes of Hazzard, even though they all were in it, I don't count, but i thought it was hilarious and was actually impressed by how good Johnny Knoxville and Stiffler were together.
Overall though, we all have different tastes. And that's kind of what makes broken lizard so freaking amazing. Each of their movies is different like I said at the beginning. I mean think of the characters Lemme plays (who personally, I think is the most talented). The smart ass cop, the latino lover, the afro jew, the hollywood playboy, etc. Or Farvre switching over to the Massuesse in Club Dread to kind of Farvre in Beerfest etc. I think that's what makes each movie special. Supertroopers-slapstick/witty/sketches. Club Dread - horror, subtle jokes, Beerfest - Just total absurd/abstract/frat boy humor and Slammin Salmon - Sketches/Sly jokes/Flat out comedy.
With that essay, all I can say is I wish BL put out more movies. But then again, they've had a long run and even the greatest groups tend to go seperate ways. As long as they make Super Trooper's 2 and Pot Fest before they call it quits, I'll be happy.
