Was Debbie the most hated character on this show?
Crackwhore looking werewolf.
Omg you shut up. Debbie was totally misunderstood and you're just all kinds of stupid for saying that about her when you don't even know. Like if you even knew the crap she has been through and yet you judge. Debbie and I would both knock you off your high horse and really bitch, crack? Well at least we don't look like we do heroin. Sit on THAT.
shareI hated Bill the most.
shareLHartz: Since I got on this board perhaps in November of last year, I have been defending the character Bill Compton. I could not believe the vitriol he aroused in a few people, usually Eric groupies who resented the fact that Bill was the co-star and not their gorgeous, charming Viking god. ( I'm objective enough to appreciate Eric while still being a Bill girl ). Bill is interesting because he is Byronically tormented, and I was attracted to his genteel, mid-19th century vibe. Lorena chose him because he was a gentleman, and despite her best efforts to turn him into a monster like herself, he holds on to his humanity. I remember when he told Sookie how jealous he was of Jessica. He says something like "When I was made, one had no choice but to hunt, kill, and stay in the shadows." -- or words to that effect. He reads a lot. He is extremely articulate and he is reading when, in 1936, Lorena comes home and he tells her he can't take it anymore--that he wants her to release him. That he never loved her. Then he says something I wish I could remember verbatim. "I spent decades trying to love you, but it was all nihilism - murder, bloody beds--God help me!"
Sookie is his last chance. His "miracle". He genuinely loves her. Yes, he can be hard, shrewd, even devious --- but he has the capacity to love deeply. It isn't an act. And he does have fatherly affection for Jessica. He loved his biological daughter Sarah deeply and this is transferred to Jessica who knows it.
When he got a more flattering haircut in Season 3, he is a strikingly handsome man with chiseled features, a sensitive mouth, and still looks fairly youthful. Time was not on his side, however. By Season 7 he's beginning to look a liitle old for the part. But a lot more attractive than any guy I've seen of 43 . Eric, of course, does not have this problem being about 9 years younger. I just found the character very appealing. I think he's the kind of guy you want because he's not afraid of commitment. And he's not always the stoic, brooding Vampire; he's got a sense of humor, a great deal of poise and intelligence. Example: When he's being interviewed on TV re: his best-selling book "And God Bled", the interviewer asks him. "So, you're a god." Compton smiles faintly, "I was a god". The guy says, "You WERE a god. Are you insane?" Compton laughs, Not at all. No." Of course, Compton is messing with the.guy.
But that
I have been defending the character Bill Compton.
Exactly. I hate Bill because he's always been manipulative and shady. Perhaps he did love Sookie, I don't know, but it always seemed completely selfish. She was HIS miracle, blah blah blah. He treated her very poorly. He became King, but did nothing to salvage her home. He used her for her blood, procured her the list goes on and on.
I can never forget that he was a murderous monster, killing women (Pam's working girls) all over the country. He deserved to die, I'm just sad it didn't happen on episode #1.
Perhaps he did love Sookie, I don't know, but it always seemed completely selfish. She was HIS miracle, blah blah blah.
I don't know why people hate Bill. Especially since it is made clear in the last episode that he truly loved her. I hate the author for messing with his character, turning him from good to bad to good again, that's what annoyed me (I don't mean the scenes from his past). For me the real Bill was the Bill of the first season and the last one. As to killing people, they all did, even Jessica, even if by mistake. As to being selfish, again they all were, more or less, even Sookie.
Sookie on the other hand annoyed me more and more, starting with the first time she got cocky with Eric (I think it was the first time she met him), I guess assuming Bill would be able to protect her. They made her character do so many stupid things, and act innocent when she had caused the whole problem to begin with. She was more and more somewhat self righteous, while at the same time cussing for no reason, jumping from one guy to the other, and making many mistakes that caused problems for others. Then in the last season (or maybe the 2 last seasons) they had to stick her in almost every scene where she had nothing to do with it, getting in the middle of everything. I guess they were all a bit like that in Bon Temps, I don't know, but towards the end, the last seasons, I could barely stand her anymore.
Debbie was not the most hated character. Survey during the last few seasons show Sookie was and after Sookie,Bill was. At the time Debbie was on the show, she was hated, although not by the most viewers, because she targeted Sookie for what, essentially, was Alcide's doing. Those who were guilty of stereotypical thinking blamed her instead of Alcide whoose inappropriate actions made her jealous of Sookie. Many of us felt sorry for her and understood that Alcide was responsibke for her inordinate jealousy. Between his treatment of Debbie and the influence of the V,she didn't have a chance. Debbie was a great character played by a talented actress and I and others enjoyed her and appreciated what she's been through.
shareBill was.
shareI agree although she cleaned up her act in Season 4. Debby's problem was Alcide. Alcide loved her but they had very little in common.
She wanted to run with a pack and have children. He was a loner and was more attracted to mainstream society. His friendship with an extremely pretty girl like Sookie drove her crazy with jealousy - which I can understand. On the other hand, jealousy is no excuse for getting hooked on V again and murder. She broke intonSookie's house in Season 3 and tried to kill her. And once again, she breaks in with a rifle and shoots Tara in the head --a bullet meant for Sookie.
I think Sookie was ridiculous blaming herself for Debbie's death. Yes, she got the gun away from Debby but she expect Debby to sit around quietly while she called the police---and wait for them? No way. She would have grabbed the gun - or shifted and attacked Sookie. This was absurd that Sookie should take the blame. It was self-defense, plain and simple.
It's the law that if someone breaks into your home with a firearm, you can defend yourself by shooting to kill. The police warn people that if you use a firearm against an intruder ---especially an aggressive, armed intruder, you shouldn't aim for the arm or leg. If they can still walk or hold a gun they will kill you! The police advise people to shoot to kill.
In the South, this law is strictly enforced. No jury would have convicted Sookie if she could control her mouth and misplaced guilt.
I actually think that honor went to Sookie and Bill Compton. On a lot of boards I've been too, these two characters are ones that I've seen harped on the most. And I can't honestly blame them.
I never hated Sookie, but by the end of the show any ounce of respect that I had for the woman was gone. She was fickle and self-centered and her obsession with Bill was just disturbing.
Bill, on the other hand, I hated from season 3 onward. His character just went on a downward spiral that never really got better, but for some reason the writers kept romanticizing him as if he were some hero that we should all root for. And his wildly unhealthy relationship with Sookie kept rearing it's ugly head back into the picture no matter how awful he became. I think that's what I hated most about his character. Sookie's character was degraded for his sake and for the sake of a relationship that should've been done with seasons ago.
I'm surprised that Jason Stackhouse doesn't get more hate on this board. Sure he is a stud. But he is so dumb, ignorant and arrogant and creates A LOT of trouble and gets people killed or just kills them himself. I get he's a great character in the story but I hate him so much!
To me he's the worst long term villain in the show!
I feel like Arlene was hated a lot. Honestly, I would be on her side if vampires were real. Suckie was always so annoying with her righteous attitude when vampires were only nice to here for a quickie and her super rare blood.
