why they cast Anne as a ugly plain woman???????????

I just dont get it, the book description says that Anne was a very pretty girl, she may have lost part of her joy and glow, but she still was beautiful.

In this adaptation they made Sally look like an old maid in her late 30's. I simply coulndt buy the gorgeous and rich captain to be soo in love with such lifeless creature.

Sally's wardrobe was just awful, even Mary was made to look better and younger. The horrible oil hair stuck at the top of her head, the dark ugly clothes ugh.

I dont get it at all. I can picture Anne as Carey Mulligan, Rachel Mcadams, Anne Hathaway, I mean cute girls that are no fantastic beauty, but Sally even looked older than Frederick.

PS - I forgot to add that I do find Sally the cutest, but not in this film, in this they made her look old and hideous, watch Happy Go Lucky and you will see hoe charming and lovely she can be.

Amanda Root in P95 really shows the progression between tired/emotionally drained and glowing.

Amanda Root is not someone I would describe as pretty.

Personally, I love both versions for different reasons.

I've only seen this version of Persuasion and haven't read the book, but I loved this film. True, the hair styles and the costumes were questionable, but the acting was excellent. Wentworth was worth it!!!

Read the book. It's beautiful. It's gut-wrenching.

This adaptation, however, is a travesty.

Yes, I did a bit of a double-take at that claim! I don't like either actress in the role, but I think Hawkins is the lesser of two evils in suitability for Anne's looks (not necessarily acting). But she is sorely mismatched with her Wentworth, and no - I just don't buy his attraction to her in this movie.

The people who are claiming looks don't matter when casting are delusional. Every role requires a certain look. Beautiful, ugly, various ages and races. Of course it matters. You wouldn't cast the same actress as Juliet and the Wicked Witch, or Helen of Troy and Queen Elizabeth the First.

Me neither Amanda root looked scary in P95, I couldn't watch it. While she is not terribly ugly, she is certainly not pretty at all and it was something else she looked scary to be honest in that movie.
