Who's Your Favorite Character this Season?

Sunil, Frances, Jesse or Adele? (Please answer only if you like this show this season.)

I'm torn between Jesse and Adele (or how Paul interacts with Adele), with Sunil right behind. The sessions with Adele are further proof that doctors make the worst patients, and it's always fascinating to see how Paul deals with his own life and this "reverse therapy."

Jesse can be volatile and annoying sometimes but also I find him fascinating and can relate to him in several ways.

It is hard for a television series to make viewers actually care about its characters but for me this show is does so with virtually every episode. So, who do you care about the most?

The character Sunil is outstanding.

He'll probably also get a nomination for an Emmy and/or a Golden Globe.

But we've also got 11 weeks of sessions - and we're only into Week 3.

Gina to Paul: You begin by questioning your value as a therapist - you end by questioning mine.

reply

Yup, Sunil. I'm thinking award too.

reply

My friend and I both agree Sunil gave us the creeps.
I guess once I heard he walked into his son's bedroom as he and his wife were sleeping it sort of creeped me out.

I agree he needs a nomination, but Adele does IMO also.
I really thought Amy Ryan did an outstanding job.

reply

Sunil was the most interesting character the show ever had, IMO.

Toss-up between Sunil and Adele. Frances is boring the hell out of me and I've already given up watching Jesse.

@ Erotic_Karma:When I say I can relate to Jesse, it means that I understand much of his experiences of feeling alone, misunderstood and undervalued, especially at his age. I'm sure lots of people can relate to and understand, to some degree, what he is going through, given the circumstances in his life. It's not that uncommon. In any case, the tone of your response was unnecessary.Dex

I'm sure that a lot of people can relate to Jesse. I know I can. Anyway, I also understand why someone would hate a person like Jesse. After all, from an outsider's point of view he looks broken and like a lost cause. Not everybody can understand that people like Jesse are actually not bad people; they are people with big problems that others can't even imagine. Their issues are rooted deep in their childhood. I'm defending Jesse, because I can relate to his rage and obnoxiousness. For example being mean and shocking people on purpose is just a plea for attention from a person who feels invisible and for whom the alternative of staying that way would feel too painful. Testing others is also very common with people with bad self-esteem.
If you are so lucky that you don't have these problems, you should be thankful, but don't resent people who are not as fortunate.

So far, Adele!

reply

I've only seen the first 16 episodes so far, but episode 16 with Adele was amazing, so:

1. Adele
2. Frances
3. Sunil/Jesse

But it can change. More episodes to see!

reply

I also really am only able to get into Sunil and Paul/Adele.

I find the change in writers this season to be too obvious. I am also very sad that I can't get into Francis. I am a big fan of Debra Winger, and yet, so far I can't get into her character. I'm afraid that it's like that old adage, an actor is only as good as the writing.
And Jesse.........forget about it.

So far only Adele.

The first 2 sessions with Sunil were very interesting, but they killed that momentum with week 3. Very weak dialogs more like kindergarten psychotherapy and Paul explains the world.

And it begins to annoy me when Paul says his :"that must have been painful" blablabla and makes his "I feel your pain" face. It is the first Season where I really question Pauls ability as a professional Therapist.

I agree with you that its interesting watching Paul in his sessions with Adele, but Jesse is by far my favorite character.

I have been waiting for a character like him for a while, and I wasn´t dissapointed. I find myself really caring for him and at the same time he really fascinates me.

Franches is the character I like the least. Her problems are more "average", and while I don´t say they are any less valid for that reason, they are not as interesting and complex as Jesses.
