Stunningly AWFUL!

Frank Miller is one of the most untalented directors in history. He should never be allowed to participate on the set of any film again.

Sin City was moderately entertaining; I am sure that's only because of Robert Rodriguez's involvement. I did love 300, but Miller had the right job on that (he wrote and drew the funny book). That's all the man is good at, and his art really ain't so hot.

I wonder when that Buck Rodgers movie he was directing is coming out?

Ha Ha!

There's a better chance of Cutthroat Island 2 hitting the screens than this untalented buffoon ever getting multiple millions of dollars to bring a movie to the big screen.

Maybe SyFy can hire him to direct a second Man-Thing picture.

Cutthroat Island was a much better film that this. Infinitely better.

The Spirit was just a horrendous effort at a movie and it probably happened because the illiterate executives running Hollywood think comic books are literature (and yes I know some prefer to call them graphic novels, I wont).
I've read several, including Frank Miller's most famous effort from the 80s. They can be entertaining, but they are simply trying to make children's lit more adult-oriented. They are not adult literature.
People who read a lot of books-especially classical literature, know this. A super hero is merely a mythological hero stripped of his human qualities (anger, jealousy, lust, personal ambition, hatred, selfishness etc).
Achilles and Heracles were more human than any modern super hero which is basically:
"woe is me-I want to help people. Can I face my fears? I want to give up. No I wont. I must keep trying because that is who I am."

Profound.

If you've never read any of the Spirit, it's important to understand that if any comic was meant for filming, the S guy is the one. Mr. Eisner wrote and drew the strip with an intelligence, sense of wit and drawing style that was based on film productions, particularly the works of Alan Ladd. Some day some knowing and talented person will make a Spirit film the way it was supposed to be made...full of chirosero light effects, humanistic characters, excellent suspense, a slowly revealed mystery, beautiful women (part this flick got right), expertly rendered dialogue, actors who look like the comic's cast...get Dolan right if nobody else!!!...quantity of humor, myserious characters, and rock-em sock-em action

There's an old saying, paraphrased, "Those who can - do. Those who can't - teach. Everyone else just bitches."

Since the OP is not a director, and, presumably, not a teacher, he must just be a bitch.

Not the bees! Not the bees!

This flick was COLOSSALLY AWFUL! TOTAL FAILURE AND CONFIRMED FULL ON SH!!T STORM!!
The movie looks good ok yeah but even that wasn't anything special. All the actors involved were probably so embarrassed after it was all over.
It just sucked I don't give a damn if people say it's satire or a spoof it was totally pointless and cartoonish. It was *beep* stupid and I'm not even going to bother going into detail . Frank Miller doesn't know what the hell is going on, did they not check on him throughout the process? Ya know see how things are going? Guy was clearly way over his head as a director. I kept waiting for it to get better but it got worse as it went along best part was Eva mendes' body double bending over and scarjo was nice to look at.
This is one of the few Samuel L Jackson performances I can remember being just bad and that's his fault for taking the part. Everybody signed on before they knew what they were getting into and then it was like holy hell we have a real terdburger on our hands here sound the alarm!
