I do not see what the big deal is about this derivative movie........the cops were pretty much 'Beavis & Butthead' in uniforms.
And another thing.....what is Hollywood's obsession with the lanky 'Kermit the frog" look (i.e. McLovin and Cera)?...do women really fall for those dudes?
It's a comedy and people thought it was funny. The fat guy obsessed about partying and getting laid, the fake ID, the dorky kid being nervous with a hot chick, going to a party and getting someone to buy you booze, and the stupid cops. It seems the jokes and over-embellished situations regarding high school and coming of age resonated with a lot of people. I found it to be hilarious.

The big deal is it's the last large/medium budget high school movie made that has teenagers in it with a sex drive.
The "ratchet effect" (The Economist circa 2020) of American sex laws, has made studios wary of making them now.
