The first abortion from the Dark Universe
I swear the Dark Universe is the stuff of legend when it comes to terrible execution.
shareI swear the Dark Universe is the stuff of legend when it comes to terrible execution.
sharewhat sane person would think Tom Cruise needs to be a part of DU
shareThis isn't the 1st abortion, not technically anyways. It's at least the 3rd. Maybe even the 4th.
Van Helsing (2004)
This was the original Universal Shared-Monster-Universe kick-off title, but the idea was scrapped soon after the movie was released.
The Wolfman (2010 film)
This was the next attempt by Universal to start a shared monster universe.
Werewolf: The Beast Among Us (2012)
This started off as a sequel to BOTH Van Helsing AND the 2010 Wolfman, but ended up becoming a stand alone straight-to-DVD flick because Universal decided they would once again REBOOT the entire Shared Monster-Universe, which directly led to Dracula Untold (2014), and we all know how that one turned out.
It's hard to find sources to back up all the claims I just made, but I've been actively following movie production news since 2000 and distinctly remember Universal claiming all the movies I just listed above were all attempts at a cinematic shared monster-verse.
EDIT:
I somewhat bizarrely found a source on this very website; and old forum post from the IMDB board from when Werewolf: The Beast Among Us (2012) was still in production.

lol I guess DC isn't the king of cinematic universe fails.
Ugh, I'm still sad we didn't see more of the dark universe.
