This movie is right up there with Sucker Punch...

If you haven't seen this movie yet and want to, save your money. This gets my vote for box office flop of the year right next to Sucker Punch!

I haven't seen this film yet, but I gotta say I never been so disappointed in a movie as I was with Sucker Punch. My biggest disappointment of 2011 by far.

I didn't think it was like Sucker Punch at all. I enjoyed this movie. Priest is hardly going down in my book as a classic of cinema, but I wasn't bored/annoyed/deeply disappointed by it. So, it's got it all over Sucker Punch.

I agree. I enjoyed it, too. I didn't see Sucker Punch but the trailer didn't look too good.

SPOILERZONE:
I enjoyed SUCKER PUNCH. Stylish. I'd buy a SUCKER PUNCH blu-ray. This movie was only 'ok'. For a sci-fi-ish, fantasy, loosely based on a comic book, monster movie, it wasnt bad. Can a superninja priest really have devine superpowers that allow them to defy gravity and survive a 200 mph leap off a kamikazi motercycle? Sure, why not. But no points for originality even though it had a 'kitchen sink' mentality. Another Matrix fight on a train? Another badguy conducting his mayhem like a symphony? Wheres the fire and steam factory? Wont be buying any blu-ray here, I wouldnt pay to watch it again. But the ride wasnt uncomfortable.

Did not see "Sucker Punch", the trailers neved did it for me and I was just not interested, on-top of that a PG-13 movie from Zach Snyder just did not compel me.

As for "Priest" I thought that it was a movie full of possibilities that were missed and the movie ended up swallowed in mediocrity. I was not annoyed or angry or any of the sort, but dissapointed due to the fact that this movie could have been way better.

I have never read the graphic novels, but if you're to go by what fans say, this movie is a sacrilege that totaly distorts what the graphic novels are about. However the director and producer have said that the movie is only "based" on the novels and not trying to follow their storyline to the letter...

As I have mentioned before, for some reason it reminds me of "Judge Dread", the 1994 movie with Stallone, a visually acomplished movie which got downed by bad acting, a bad script and bad casting. Hopefully the franchise re-boot "Dread" starring Karl Urban incidentally, will be better.

If it's any consolation, "Priest" is better than "Legion"...and I also have a confession to make, I went to see the movie in large part due to Maggie Q being cast in it...and she did not dissapoint me...LOL.

I must've been the only one who really enjoyed Sucker Punch. I thought the action scenes were breathtaking. I gotta say though, it is Zack Snyder's worst film to date, but it was still a visually stunning piece IMO.

Hmmm, I liked both Sucker Punch and Priest. I would have set Sucker Punch in a high school or reformatory rather than a brothel/insane asylum and toned down the dressing, but I liked both movies.

I wonder if Blade Runner or Mad Max or even the very first Star Wars movie (Episode IV - A New Hope) came out today whether they'd also be trashed.

blade runner was trashed... and your point is stupid, because these two films (priest and sucks punch) are *beep* films

I love how whenever slow motion is used its INSTANTLY trying to rip off the matrix...wtf? THEY USED SLOW MOTION BEFORE THE MATRIX...geez get over it you picky little idiots.

Saw both movies yesterday, both were pretty *beep* bad.:S

Priest was not great, but it was good. I found it an enjoyable 83 minutes, an interesting mash-up of themes and ideas.

reply

I think you're right about it being similar to Sucker Punch. Both are very stylish movies that squander their true potential by being cliched.

reply

Are you kidding me. Sucker punch's soundtrack alone is better than this

reply

I never said that the soundtrack of Sucker Punch is not better than this, or the movie itself.

I simply think they're similar movies, in that both are great examples of style over substance.

I figured I'd give it a shot at Redbox and lose a buck but now I want my dollar back. This is waaaaaaaay worse than Sucker Punch and that's just being nice. At least Sucker Punch had some nice set pieces and makes for some good entertainment if you're stoned and turn the volume down and put on some trip hop or psychedelic music. This was terrible. Terrible acting, terrible wirework action, cheap-looking props, predictable. I pretty much knew it would be bad but I figure I'd spent a dollar on worse things. I may be wrong about that though.

They would have been better off making the whole thing animated like the intro. They would have saved money on actors, stunt men and special effects and for the tone of the movie, they would have gotten more entertainment value and more credibility out of the story.

And what's up with seven minutes of credits at the end? So this movie itself was really only 80 minutes long instead of 87. Wow.
