Why koalas?

Why do you even need an explanation for that? Do you need one because you think its funny that something is above the human race? I am just curious.
Because for me it was like "Hell why not. Why does it have to be the humans on top of his creation."

Why NOT koalas? Nine's not a documentary. Your laugh shows the gag works. We had a chuckle too.

Telepathic weather-changing Koalas came across as self deprecating whimsy, very much in the style of DNA's classic book "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy".

Not for Koalas, but even better, there is an actual society "Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster" [Google it], dedicated to getting FSM dogma equal time in public schools with other religions. On the official website see esp the About section. They sell T-Shirts too.

...because it was very unexpected. they could have said praying mantises. or manatees. or ostriches. or dung beetles. koalas are cute and cuddly looking animals (although most people who understand anything about koalas know otherwise).

I think this is just to show that if this world was created by him from scratch, he could randomly choose anything as a being that is telepathic and controls the weather. At one point in the film, it is said that he created this world "on a whim". So why not koalas? When you think about it, there are many strange things in this world that seem like someone with a sense of humor just made them up randomly.

Well, I honestly would say that this movie is some version of a sacred text. Most versions of the bible are broken up into three main parts. At the same time, why not koalas? If you were into numerology the choice of this animal as a word to beat out others according to her explanation.. You might understand it. K is a psychic letter, O is a basic symbol for the sun earth or moon, A is the firt number, making it the "number of the universe", the letter L is the twelth letter in the english alphabet it's a phallic number representing a position of power in some religions, then we get a again, and s is just a plural. By the way, I'm not christian, and this movie was not made to be understood, Donnie Darko was made to be understood, but not this one. Well. There were four nines, and four is the number of understanding wisdom and power. Check it out, correct me if I'm wrong. This movie could be a very debatable one, or an effin crackhead could have written the plot on acid... The world may never know.

Remember the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy? The protagonist finds out after Earth is demolished that the most intelligent species on Earth were mice. Followed by dolphins. And finally in third place, humans.

It's funny in that it's unexpected, that's it.

I would have guessed, or written, dolphins or elephants. But maybe, those choices are too obvious and predictable.
