shareNothing else quite like it. And USA is obvious ridding itself of that type of shows. Saw the ad for Satisfaction, one of their new shows. All I can say is "ewwwww".
I won't be watching USA network much longer.
I'd suggest Castle, Leverage,Psych (so many quotable moments),White Collar,Chuck.
The fun thing about BN, WC, Chuck especially is the people putting the shows together loved their fans.

shareShows where killing people is not a priority and Americans can do wrong.. Thats a tough one, who would watch it? I loved BN just because of that but it had as much action as the lighter side of things. There are shows like Gotham.. Macgyver? Chuck might be similar in some respects but thats a comedy show. But for a show, trying to show the baddies as totally evil and deserves death is a canned script thats in every show. Alias has too much violence and some of the setups are just frustrating. But try fringe if you watched Alias. Fringe is way ahead of most shows but it is not for everyone. But I personally think its the best show I seen on TV yet and has not only those 3 ingredients but a lot more. It gives as much as you put into it. That is very rare for a show.

Really I can only think of a few TV-MA level shows that haven't been listed since it seems to be where a lot of the greatness shows up. AMC has "Breaking Bad" and also "The Walking Dead", the latter has pretty much no comedy if you absolutely need it. As for HBO "True Detective" is wonderful but intense. "Deadwood" is fun yet insulting. I think most people know about "Game of Thrones" by now but it's worth mentioning. Oh, a more light TV series that I have found great after the first few episodes is "Agents of Shield."
shareComing at the concept from another angle, but with the same combination of humor, drama, and good writing/characters, but a bit less action, is NCIS.
Different, but kind'a the same.
I could also suggest "I Spy", "Mission Impossible", "It takes a Thief", and such, but it would date my age.
shareWell, right up there with Burn Notice, imo, is Touching Evil, the US version (not the original British), also starring Jeffrey Donovan. Another great character brilliantly acted.
The show's subject matter is darker than BN because of the crime's they solve, but Donovan's character, Creegan, is a delight. Creegan was shot in the head and lost a chunk of his brain. He was pronounced dead for something like ten minutes. He spends a year in a mental hospital before coming back to work for the FBI, in the Organized & Serial Crimes Unit, which he helped create. He's a changed man, divorced, feels detached from his old life and most interestingly, has lost a lot of his inhibitions (they say the "shame" part of his brain is gone). He lives in a motel, sometimes with a schizophrenic mathematician who thinks he's from another planet. Since his accident, Creegan has a hard time understanding or following the rules. But he's still a brilliant agent. He is at times hilarious, tortured, childlike, conflicted, and heartbreakingly lovable. Oh and ridiculously cute. I love JD in this hair cut. He and his co-star, Vera Farmiga have amazing chemistry. It was a critically acclaimed show, too. Such a shame that it was prematurely cancelled.
If you have trouble finding it, it's available on Youtube.
If you're looking to a current show that shows what a retired spy can do for the common man, someone suggested Person of Interest which I'd also agree with. If you don't mind looking hard, a great idea is an 80's show called The Equalizer. Though the Denzel Washington movie is based on it, I wouldn't be surprised if Burn Notice was written with this in mind.
