Great movie! Only gets a 6.0 on imdb... proof that people are stupid.

I guess , and Im not saying the younger generation is retarded, but the only reason I can think of why this movie would only get a 6 is that most web users are tweens... and are maybe brainwashed by pop culture... or puberty, or they haven't lived life...
I have no idea, but I loved this movie... I mean it should get at least a 7... I would give it an 8...

OK, there were a lot of scenes that were standard thrillerbynumber stuff,
but some of the scenes... like when he was doing his piano piece in front of all the other parents... that was brilliant!
And his song at the end...

All Im saying is, at least give this movie a 7 people.... 6? thats BS! 6 is for movies like Batman Forever or some subpar crap

I am afraid that you are wrong. If you check the analysis of rating, you can see at the moment when I write this post that best marks have been given by females under 18 (teens), while females over 45 (with life experiences) have given it the lowest rating.

But females, being only about 15 percent of all voters, don't influence so much on final, total rating. But even among male voters, teen males gave better marks for this movie than other, adult male age groups.

Brain washing isn't limited to teenagers. If so, this world would look significantly better today (though our future would be dark), because teenagers don't have so big influence; brainwashed adults are by far more dangerous, and obviously more common than you think.

It proof that people have different opinion and it proof that u are a real idiot! I am a teenager and i gave this film a 6/10. And i know how to watch a film, and i know that people have different opinions, and i know how to respect those opinions too.

May u finally rest in peace

I would have rated it higher if it didn't try so hard to *be* such an atmospheric thriller. This movie succeeds enough on creeping you out enough by the actions of the kid and the mother; we don't need all the darkened shots and creepy music to push it over the top.

I really hate the automatic reaction of "people are idiots" whenever someone likes something that doesn't connect with "the masses." Granted, we all feel the same about things were really love that others didn't "get" but it's not that black and white.

And for the record, I thought the movie was pointless. It was a tired attempt at suspence and psychological thriller that fell way short of any of the films it attempted to emulate.

I've also found it surprising how this film didn't get any real recognition ever since it came out and I really just stumbled on it myself, but Joshua really is a little gem. It has artistic and psychological depth that so many lack these days and it's a great example of brilliant film-making. Definitely deserves a higher rating.

Death to Videodrome! Long live the new flesh!

Damn, that puts a lot of things about IMDb into perspective when you compare this one to Zombie's idiotic mistake of a remake and come up with the same score...

^I agree with this assessment. I wanted so badly for the Osiris/Set reference and the supernatural elements to play a role in the outcome of the story, but it never came about. I was hoping the baby would have some relevance to Joshua's cause as well, but that potential got wasted as well.

So maybe it were those kinds of disappointments that kept me from enjoying the film as much as others did. I gave it a 4, which is "ok" in my view of the 1-10 system...If it had stuck as it did for the first half/three quarters, it'd have gotten 3 or 4 points higher...

reply

Yeah i agree it was a good movie first of all i wasnt fussed but as the movie went on it improved a lot and in the end it was a really intelligent and enjoyable movie.

reply

agreed Joshua is sssso underrated, and there are a lot of other really great horror movies with very low ratings ...but who cares rates, personally I don't care ...

reply

i gave it a 5.
oh, and i'm not retarded...
=)

reply

Nope , it proves that you are stupid.

Jokes aside, I gave it less than a 6 because it was bad. The only saving graces are Rockwell and Farmiga.

@ OP... Well i am damn near 31 myself and consider myself a big Vera Farmiga fan because she's a solid actress and she's very attractive (even Sam Rockwell can be solid at times to in acting dept) but the film overall was just 'OK'. i gave it a 6/10.

i kind of think it's ending could have been better i guess. but in terms of bottom line entertainment a 6/10 sounds about right.

but i guess what i got from it was that the kid pretty much wanted to get rid of his parents so he could be with Ned and his little sister and that's what appears happened as i think the film just assumes Sam Rockwell's character is pretty much doomed from all the witnesses etc.

p.s. but i will agree with the OP that sometimes some films are underrated but one (action) film i think is definitely underrated on IMDB is Mission Impossible II (2000) as that should be comfortably in the high 6's MINIMUM for the average rating as it's the best MI film but i wonder if it was so disliked because it feels different from the 1996 one which has a more MI feel to it.

--------------------------------------------------------------

i pretty much agree with... 'El_Blue_Flamingo'.

although i as i said a million times before... 'it's not really about being original anymore, it's mostly about taking a idea that's already been done before and doing it well'.

You're far, far too kind to "Batman Forever". That waste of everyone's time doesn't deserve better than a 1. But, too each his own, I guess.

While i would agree that the Batman films after the 1989/1992 ones (besides the recent 2005/2008 which are also good) should have never happened they are surely not THAT BAD with the whole 1/10 stuff.

so basically the films with Michael Keaton/Christian Bale = Good. everything else without those two pretty much get a clear thumbs down.
