um, i think it's intentional and it is a part of this society that women are like that... extremely apathetic and only success driven, etc. i don't think anyone in this entire movie shows much emotion at all... and that's why the women look like idiots. that's why it shows the couple kissing and they look completely emotionless, particularly the woman.
i don't think it's a commentary on the women; i think it's a commentary on the nature of that city and how no one derives joy out of anything: people drink bout cannot get drunk... people eat but cannot taste. etc. etc. etc.

Actually, he wants to leave the first relationship because it is completely unfulfilled. And it isn't the sex that is not ok.
Keep in mind that he is exploring this world, and when he makes choices he doesn't really know what they are about. I think he is attracted to this other woman because she seems at first to have some semblance of what is missing in this bland depersonalized world. But she doesn't. That's why the scene in the restaurant is so shocking.
I don't think he knows what is missing, really. When he breaks into the other world briefly, it is a generalized picture of what is not right about the world he is in, but it isn't personal. It too is a bit hazy and depersonalized. It's not just the world he finds himself in that is alienating, he's alienated from himself as well.
But back to your statement, everyone in the movie is "an idiot". None of them are quite people. And there are some in this world that you and I live in that view women that way. So, I can see why it would strike a chord for you, but I don't think that this movie was depicting women in general as depersonalized objects. That is far too specific a point for this movie, as the director was focusing more on happiness as a human being. We follow this guy into a new world(?) neither he, nor we, may ever understand

The main guy just didn't want to live like that. This film is in no way sexist whatsoever.
