Are we getting a Season 6?

Does anyone know? Just watched season 5 and loved it but it does feel like that may be it as they've wrapped up pretty much everything?

I won't want to watch it without Connor and Abby! It won't be the same show without them. I'll probably still watch because I want to know if they fixed the future or not but I will watch it with a sad face at having no Connor and Abby.

reply

How is two Matts, NOT a cliffhanger?

reply

They're waiting to get ratings for ITV's airing of series 5 next year. The implication I've seen from the creators is that everyone else involved in the funding (Watch, BBC Worldwide, etc.) is on board, but ITV is still a little iffy. And since they're the ones funding the lion's share of it, they have to be sure they're going to make money from it.

Earliest we could hear about this would probably be March, which would put airing of a potential s6 in 2013.

reply

Season 6 in 2013 might be a disaster unless they time it right, the BBC is pulling out the stops for the Doctor Who 50th aniversery

Don't know if it means anything but Andrew Lee-Potts is guesting in the current Doc Martin. I'm just looking at his only episode right now.

Seems to me that would be an unnecessary thing for him to do if he was still part of the Primeval cast.

Incidentally, he's doing an incredibly bad Devon accent (in Cornwall) and occasionally sounds like Ardal O'Hanlon (yes, it is that bad).

Oh, I dunno. He'll want to keep his career alive, whether there's any more Connor in his future or not, and that means playing other roles.

You might very well think that. I couldn't possibly comment.

I found a press release indicating that a sixth season will be brought to us late in 2012, numbering 13 episodes. They're calling it Primeval: New World http://www.bellmediapr.ca/space/releases/release.asp?id=14201&yyyy =2011.

Officially, they're calling it a spin-off, but I think their just saying that because it's a Canada/UK joint venture with a new cast. If a season 7 is greenlit, it'll likely feature more of cast that we've all come to know and love.

River: Don't worry, I'm quite the screamer. Now there's a spoiler for you!

reply

I'll watch New World. But honestly it's not the same without Connor and Abby. Without them I have to view this new series as a completely separate show.

Now, if this new series is filmed in Vancouver AND they find a way to incorporate the original cast I'd be very pleased, I'm a big fan of shows filmed in Vancouver (really enjoy a lot of the actors/writers that are based there)

reply

Same here. I'd watch, but not with a great deal of enthusiasm without any of the regulars.

reply

Yes as a lot of the stuff will be done here in Vancouver. A couple of clients (cameramen) are up for some work in it so they asked me - the brit sci-fi lover - about the show :-)

reply

I would love it if there was as British writing is a lot different from the US/Canadian styles of show as they more happy about having a story arc which many over the pond shows do not. The loss of connor and abby would effect the show but i guess it depends on who was brought in.

reply

For me, it just wouldn't be the same without the british accents!! Gotta love it

reply

Agreed. Love the series but Conner and Abby really make it shine.

Justice for Treyvon.

reply

From reading it sounds like a sister show with possible cross overs to Primeval itself, regardless i'd watch/ buy it just for the support.

reply

Still no news I've heard either way, anybody got contacts on the inside?

reply

I really hope we are lucky enough to get a 6th season, with the same cast and more than just 6 or 7 episodes. I truly love and enjoy Primeval. I know we were lucky to get these last 2 seasons, but I still want more, I'm addicted! I've recorded all of them on DVR and it is a habit for me to watch 1 or 2 episodes every night. My fingers are crossed for at least 1 more season.

reply

I'm with you on this. I watched it on Netflix and fell in love with it myself. I am grieving that I am at the end of the show. I want more! This is the best show I have watched since that writer's strike ruined TV as we used to know it by having the air waves saturated with stupid reality TV shows. This has been soooo good!

Another goodie I watched was Almost Human. They really finished that off though. Good shows are so hard to find.

reply

I've heard mixed stories on a season 6. Apparently this was filmed well over a year ago which is quite a gap if they are to present a season 6. I have also heard there is supposed to be a Canadian version of the show either in production or about to go into production. Like everything else, details on this are sketchy.

reply

The suspense is killing me, wish they would give us some info!

reply

If they are doing season 6 as a spin off "new world" I might think about buying the box set 1-5 .... I hate buying series unless I can buy the complete box set, so I wait for series to absolutly finish before buying any dvds!

reply

Production for Primeval is slated for February 29th through July 9th. No cast is listed on the site listing, but it's going to start soon.

reply

Are you sure? Primeval or Primeval:spin-off?
If it's the 'real' Primevel, it's great and I'm glad.

SPACE announced that it has ordered the new original drama series PRIMEVAL: NEW WORLD. The 13-episode, one-hour scripted action/adventure drama is a new Canadian series that builds on the mythology of the U.K. hit, PRIMEVAL, one of the most-watched programs on SPACE. Developed in association with Omni Film Productions (DEFYING GRAVITY, ARCTIC AIR) and the producers of the original U.K. series, Impossible Pictures, SPACE will act as lead broadcaster on PRIMEVAL: NEW WORLD. Production begins in Vancouver this winter.

The show is currently in pre-production and the BC Film Commission has it scheduled to shoot between 29 Feb to 9 Jul 2012

Executive producers for the show are :
Michael Chechik, Gabriela Schonbach (for Omni Film Productions)
Tim Haines, Katie Newman (for Impossible Pictures)
Martin Wood (Sanctuary, Stargate, Andromeda, Jeremiah, Earth: Final Conflict)
Gillian Horvath (Sanctuary, Flash Gordon, Dante's Cove, Painkiller Jane, Andomeda, Forever Knight)

PRIMEVAL: NEW WORLD follows a specialized team of animal experts and scientists that investigates the appearance of temporal anomalies and battles both prehistoric and futuristic creatures. The series boasts new Canadian characters and stories created by an all-Canadian team of writers. Set in Vancouver against the backdrop of the Pacific Northwest, PRIMEVAL: NEW WORLD takes the thrills and gripping storylines that fans of the British series have grown to love and creates something completely unique that’s darker and scarier than the current U.K. series. At the same time, story and character development will move between the two series, uniting different plotlines.

“This is a truly unique opportunity, building a parallel yet independent series that will appeal to existing fans and new audiences,” said Corrie Coe, Senior Vice-President, Independent Production, Bell Media. “This new Canadian series offers a fresh world of possibilities in terms of characters and stories, while including some favourite elements from the original U.K. Primeval.”

“We’ve worked closely with SPACE and Impossible Pictures for two and a half years to create this series, and we’re excited to take on the challenge of a Canada-UK co-production with companies whose creative work has impressed us for years,” said Gabriela Schonbach, Vice President, Omni Film Productions.

UK Primeval is over. Forever. Popularity does not matter.

re: "UK Primeval is over. Forever. "

The problem with your comment is this statement from what you posted: "story and character development will move between the two series" seems to imply a future for both.

I hope they don't overdo on the timetravel-changing-of-history stuff. The UK version kept that to a minimum, I would hate to see the americans feeding another stereotype about them doing everything too much! It's a great series. They should keep that in mind and don't destroy it. Otherwise I'm quite thrilled the series wasn't really put down. It's a very original idea, or at least there aren't very many dinosaur/timetravel series out there. (Doctor who, Terra nova, maybe...) But nothing that compares to this one.

last time I checked, Canada was not a part of the USA(I'm assuming that's what you mean by Americans)...

reply

[deleted]

It's not the Americans doing the spin off. It's the Canadians. I've seen some good stuff coming from Canada lately that quite distinguished from U.S. or U.K. styles. In a nice way even.

reply

I meant americans as in people from America, Canada is in America. Most call people from USA americans, I meant canadians too when I said it! But you're right. There is some great stuff that comes from Canada.

reply

Uhh, speaking as a Canadian it's an insult to refer to us as Americans under any circumstances. It's akin to calling the Scots English or refering to Austrians as Germans.

reply

Didn't mean to insult you. Sorry. I am not much a fan of US Americans myself. But technically, Canadians, Mexicans, Brazillians, Colombians etc etc are Americans. It's just that the US "stole" the word and now people, as yourself, take offence because they don't want to be associated with the US. That is something I wouldn't want either. I hate when words get a different meaning because someone famous uses it to their advantage. Or words in history who still mock people long gone. Like the word mud, it comes from a guy with the last name Mudd. Not so nice to be the inventor of a word meaning dirt or dirty is it?

I seam to be good at getting off subject. Still, the word Americans refers to all people living on either of the two continents of south or north America. Even if people don't think that way when speaking the word in modern time, this should not be forgotten.

As you may see, misundertood words in history is something I am fascinated by and I applaud you if you're still reading. My sincerest apology for insulting you. I hope we'll both enjoy watching the new series.

Oh and by the way. I would never refer to Scots as English. I would say that they live in Great Britain though, or just Britain (I simply refer to them sometimes as brittish). Or rather European as that is the equivalent of calling Canadians Americans.

Fortunately writing for Canadian television is more like it's UK counterpart than American and as New World is a Canada/UK co-production that shouldn't change too much... if Garfield and Judith Reeves-Stevens can remember that.

reply

Different show same name, the production company with no vision brought the name Primeval to use to their own ends. Dr. Who is only sure fire Sci-Fi over time on TV, in the english speaking world.

reply

Oh people really have to drop the whole arrogant anti-American attitude already. It only serves to illustrate how pompous you are. Have you met every one of the 300 million people here? Have you even BEEN here, other than the major coastal cities? I rather doubt it in most cases.

Mind you, I was born here, 2nd generation, and I'll be the first to admit that our shows aren't always the highest caliber... not to mention most politicians and a great many mindless drones out there (as there are in any part of the world, the UK included)....but it gets really old when (and I'm not only referring to this thread) people assiduously attack an entire nation's intelligence based on the shows they enjoy or the actions of a few which are magnified in the media.

At any rate, most of the vitriol aimed toward this show and most of those saying the show shouldn't be renewed, I noticed, tend to be residents of the UK. I'm not sure what the issue with it is - frankly it isn't the most smartly written show out there, and it can be dreadfully predictable....and yes, many of the characters are imbecile at best...and it realllly would have benefitted from keeping Cutter....but I've seen considerably worse.

It all boils down to what you enjoy and how much cheese and laughable science you can take and still let it go and just enjoy the show. I'm a geology/paleontology major - so when, for instance, Connor says the Jurassic was 240 million years ago (not quite, that'd be Triassic), or someone says someone else reminds them of a Utahraptor they met in the Jurassic (early Cretaceous, thanks for playing)...I do facepalm...as they say.... but I still love it, stupid as it can be.

I truly hope it is renewed...especially given the cliffhanger at the end of series 5...but if it is not, at least it was ended in a suitable enough way that series 5 could serve as a finale for the show. Could've been worse. Could've ended up like Terra Nova.

reply

I agree. It would be nice of them to get there facts straight but it's still a very nice show. I will rather watch shows like Primeval, Terra Nova, Fringe or Warehouse 13 than one of the millions of "reality" shows or one where the hero/heroin is an adulterer, serial killer or other kind of criminal. I really hope they do a season 6. I want to know what's up with the 2 Matt's and if they manage to save the future.
