I just finished watching this series, and man, was it good. I started watching it after watching another post-apocalyptic series of a different sort, Falling Skies, which is about life after an alien invasion. I've also been watching Revolution, and although it's decent, I now find that it is clearly behind both Falling Skies and Jericho.
Anyone have any other suggestions for these kinds of end-of-world/post-apocalypse series?
Yes, I would put it right up there with Jericho. It's more sci-fi than Jericho, but similar in that both show militaristic societies having survived a cataclysmic event, and both are just trying to get by, not knowing if they will. I thought Falling Skies was only "ok" after the first few episodes, but then it really got good the more I watched into season one. Now, I am really looking forward to season three (this summer).
As Phidippides mentioned, it's on Amazon Prime. Better streaming quality than Netflix. Pretty good deal. $70 a year for unlimited streaming and free two-day shipping on Amazon shipped products.

Falling skies - stick with it and try to ignore the hammy effects and its OK
Don't listen to him. The show really isn't that good. In addition to it's constant and questionable killing of minority characters there isn't much here to see folks.

Yes because killing non whites should only occur in real life not TV and movies. genius.
I wouldn't ever make a movie without everyone being white and straight, so I wouldn't have to listen to bean counters whining about how they are written or how they talk act killed etc.
I would like to go back in time and kill the idiot who created the term "reimagining."
Survivors was a British series a few years back that I would rate much higher than Falling Skies or Revolution. However, it only got two seasons before cancellation and had an open ending (sound familiar?). And of course there's always the Walking Dead.
Jericho and Falling Skies are very similar in theme. As stated earlier in the thread, it takes you several episodes to get into the latter show while Jericho hits the ground running.
I presume the OP has at least seen The Walking Dead, which is probably the best apocalyptic show yet to grace the screen.
There's an older show that was on Showtime, called Jeremiah - by the creator of Babylon 5. It was decent. It was about life on Earth about 10 years after a plague had killed all humans except children who hadn't reached puberty yet. Neat concept, but the show was kind of hit or miss.
Most apocalyptic shows get cancelled before the apocalypse actually happens; some good ones to check out:
Invasion, Threshold, Surface...
Invasion was very good and had a lot of promise. Sadly, it was axed after its first season.
I didn't like Threshold, but Invasion, Surface and Jeremiah were pretty good too, yet cancelled for the reality tv idiots. Terminator the Sarah Connor chronicles was getting apocalyptical, then it was axed.
The Day of the Triffids 2009 tv series The Last Train tv series Battlestar Galactica sci-fi post-apocalyptic series Caprica 2009 tv series
Not to mention the Event, but that's more of an alien invasion sci-fi like V.
I started watching survivors...I thought the acting was kind of stiff/ bad at first....after a couple of episodes, I've really gotten into it....and like the characters...I do think the reasoning behind the virus should not have played outright away..still, I'm hooked!
A 1983 TV movie, The Day After, was also set in Kansas following a nuclear attack.
A 1987 mini-series, Amerika, was developed in response to The Day After and dealt with a Soviet-occupied United States. It did poorly in the ratings after the first night and will be difficult to come by.
Jericho - Decent show, the ending was too sped up which really ruined it. I guess if it wasn't canceled so quickly it could have moved at a better pace.
Jeremiah - Personally one of my favorites. A mix of Action, Humor, Drama and just very interesting twist we dont' typically get in shows. _ Writing Excellent
Revolution - I'll watch it, so far nothing special
Survivors - Season 1 (ah, ok) Season 2 - Fantastic
Falling Skies - Hasn't disappointed me yet, solid show.
The Walking Dead - Another solid show. I get a bit annoyed of the Zombies simply because they aren't anything special (give me some running Jumping zombies! Like that scene in that Will Smith movie when they are attacking his house!)
FlashForward - Not technically apocalyptic but it was about the end of the world! I miss this show.
The Fades - (Technically not post apocalyptic) More about Avoiding the Apocalypse. It's Awesome and one of my favorite series (even though it was canceled after 1 season.. Must see tv).
I think most of these have already been mentioned, but if you are into Post Apocalyptic tv, than I think all of these are a must see.
The Walking Dead is fantastic, less about the zombies and more about surviving,
Falling Skies gets better and better as it goes on, Season 2 was fantastic, more war and alien invasion though.
Revolution, if you can get past the absurdity of the premise and the hammy acting, it's actually a really fun show. Roll on Season 2.
Jericho is probably one of my all time favourite shows. Must see. Season 2 was only commissioned to have 7 episodes with more to follow if it was successful, as the ratings were'nt calculated correctly (not taking into account DVR viewings and only counting Nielson box viewers) they cancelled it but they filmed two endings, one if it was cancelled and one if it continued.
Survivors was ok, the first season was a bit meh but season 2 was really good, shame they cancelled it though.
Survivors, the original version from 1975 is a fantastic, if you can get past the 70s u.k fashion and some quite wooden dialogue in season 1 you'll be in for a treat as Season 3 is incredibly bleak and post apocalyptic.
I agree with Walking Dead. Falling Skies is so-so. The writing is a bit inconsistent. It's like they don't know what direction the show is moving in from one season to another. Overall it's a good show, tho.
Can't stand Revolution. It's a melodrama more than a survival series.
I've watched Earth 2, Survivors, Outcasts and Terra Nova plus good ol' Space 1999. I won't say anything bad about them because there just isn't enough Post Apoc on TV.
Under the Dome is promising with only a couple episodes aired. Defiance is a little Ho Hum but it's amazing in scope.
Looking forward to The Tomorrow People, The Hundred, The Strain, The Last Ship, and Incursion. I loved Heroes, Lost, Fringe and (still) Doctor Who and Haven if that helps understand my choices. Also like /liked Alphas, Orphan Black, Warehouse 13 and Sanctuary.
Almost forgot about Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Totally ambivalent about that one.

Here are some post-apocalyptic series from earlier days: 1) V: The Mini Series (1980's) 2) V: The Final Battle (1980's) 3) War of the Worlds (early 1990's) 4) Alien Nation (early 1990's) 5) Space: Above and Beyond (late 1990's) 6) Star Trek: Enterprise (early 2000's)
Yes, ST: Enterprise is "post-apocalyptic" depending on the time line of the episode. One of the main focuses of ST: Enterprise is time-travel with consequences.
