Netflix has picked+#65279; up Jericho for a third season

Netflix is currently in talks with CBS about obtaining the television rights to the defunct dystopian sci-fi serial, Jericho.

That would be amazing. They are re-booting everything else, at least this has some decent writing, good actors and characters. I know some fans who are just gonna go NUTS for this news : )

Yeah, nothing more exhilarating than a nuclear war scenario! Honestly, I think with the given fetish of Zombie and Vampires...this show may gain a lot more attention if it were to be marketed correctly today.

reply

I agree completely, with your take on marketing. I never heard of this show until I started watching The Walking Dead on Netflix. They recommended Jericho as another show I would like and they were right! I think Jericho would do much better now for that reason. There seems to be an ongoing fascination with the "what would happen if..." scenario right now. I know I'm intrigued.

Also with how big government has gotten, everyone loves a story relating their lives to a corrupted government. I mean c'mon, this show has everything for everybody. The cute love romance between a farmer and a city slicker, Jake's screwed up past and his catharsis, mysterious man who showed up before the attacks...its been 6 or so years and I'm still asking how this show didn't make it at least 5 seasons. Since the reboot though, of the 6 episodes they made because of popular demand, I'm trying to figure out where how they can take the show further. Haven't checked out the comic books but maybe I should to get an idea.

reply

Honestly, I've always thought it was because of the timing of it. It was 2006, 5 years after 9/11, and there's a show about the "biggest terrorist attack in the world", the "September attacks"... and I think that over all, it was "too soon" for the country to be ready for it.

So many people were still terrified at that point, especially people living in cities. I live in NY- I was seeing it a lot even then. I mean, in 2009 people were put into an actual stampeding panic when someone decided that flying Air Force One near the Statue of Liberty would make a good photo- To the point where the guy who came up with the idea felt forced to resign.

Personally, I loved it as soon as I discovered it, which was shortly before the 2nd season came out- but I always felt that people pushed it away for that reason.

reply

This is stupid and unfortunate.

The writers were only 20% done with their story arc.

The graphic novel/comic has advanced the story but not by much.

In the season 3 graphic novel/comic, they started from the end of season 2 and ended it by bringing in the character that was introduced in the alternate ending of season 2 (the one the network asked them to reshoot).

In season 4 (which is just starting0, we will learn more about Mr Palmer and there is also a sub-story set in Mississippi.

They were supposed to do a series on the web only as a followup due to popular demand, then they cancelled it after releasing an add-on for the original pilot. Then they were supposed to do a spin-off show called Countdown about Robert Hawkins researching the effects of nuclear weapons and such, and I never saw it. If Netflix picks this up, I'll forgive them for failing with Terra Nova!

The Countdown series is still on you tube and there was one made for each episode of the first season.

Currently the Jericho story is continuing in the Season 3: Civil War graphic novel, which can be ordered on Amazon.

reply

I mean, we know by now that the deal didn't happen (which was a TERRIBLE mistake by someone. If Falling Skies has been a hit, and TWD, Jericho would be off the charts--it really was a show ahead of its time).

Still, you DO get the difference between FICTIONAL apocalypse and a real one, right? Just because people like character studies in a "Survival of the Fittest" setting doesn't make them "bad" or "wrong" or "warped" or whatever it was you apparently tried to imply with that first sentence... GEESH!

Same here :)

I never thought I could like a show so much before watching this. Hope it gets revived.

reply

Just a great show. The writing, and acting is perfect. The show needs to be picked up again. Top 10 shows of all time.

Jericho fans tweet #JerichoOnNetflix everyday during the 2pm PST hour to let @cbs know we want new episodes of our favorite show!!! Jericho Lives!!!

reply

Yep I would go nuts for this. The show was ended with a wide-open plotline, it has just been begging to be completed.

I love this show, but what more could they do really? They spent the 7 episodes of season 2(which that was a miracle they got) wrapping everything up and putting an end to it. I dont think it needs to come back. It was amazing how it was

They said that Texas would join with the Eastern United States after the bomb was delivered to Texas. So, what happens next?
EUS/Texas vs ASA
Beck's family
Does Gray Anderson remain as mayor? Do the Green's get back into local power?
New Bern / Jericho war
ASA gov vs. Jake/Hawkins/residents of Jericho
Beck's men basically all went AWOL- what happened to them. Did they go back "home" did they stay in Jericho?
Some of this was in the third season graphic novels...

That's really good news. Lets wait and see.
