6.2 ? Another Great Horror Movie with a Low rating

I gave this movie a 6, a score which I'm still not sure about.

See, the first 20-or-so minutes had me hooked. I absolutely loved the tone and the psycho-killer being the stalkee as opposed to the stalker felt really fresh. Also, the first killings were BADASS.

Then it went downhill.
And I'm not even talking about the monsters. In fact, I think it was the only possible ending they could have that would be even remotely plausible.

I had a serious issue with the treatment of the girlfriend character. At first, I figured that she served as a point of normalcy for him to fall from. Then he raped her. Fine, it contrasts with the sex they had earlier and gratuitous as it may be, it made sense. But then she decides to help him in his quest?
This change in her was almost instant and in the next clip she was already meeting up with some guy who was barely established and they're off to save him? It felt very rushed and unbelievable.
In the end, she accomplishes nothing and gets killed.
They created this character for the sole purpose of making her suffer and this made me really uncomfortable.

They also created this sexual harassment subplot involving the art gallery manager-boss-high-up-whatever that never got resolved and was entirely pointless. There were a lot of moments like these where ideas was planted but never developed.


All in all, I think a more narrow focus would have served the film well.
I think the 6 might be a bit generous.
