Why did this have to be super natural?

Firstly, I loved everything about this film (except for the ending really). Effects were great, CGI enhanced the film (didn't make the film) acting was pretty decent, love the villain, love what he's doing, the good guys are all like-able.

Little lacking in dialog in some scenes (with the characters that speak) but that's no biggy.

So I have to ask this because it drives me crazy... Why did they have to make it super natural?

What is wrong with having a movie about a guy slaughtering people on a subway?

I know it's based on a series of short stories but I'm just really disappointed with the path it went.

I'm alright with super natural films, I'm a fan of the paranormal in general but when there's a SICK concept, they shouldn't make the twist super natural.

It's a lot like Jeeper's Creepers.

What's wrong with having a sick dude with a sick hat in a sick trench coat killing people, eating body parts, and stitching the remains together in his rape dungeon?

Just my little rant, thanks for listening :)

I don't get it. So you'd rather the movie just be about a big guy slaughtering people on the subway for no reason? Not that a decent slasher movie couldn't have been made with a premise like that, but the reality of the story and how it plays out is much more original and interesting than what you propose. Also the movie is supernatural because the story it's based on is supernatural (though considerably different). And your subject line gives spoilers for people who haven't seen the movie.

Anyway, it's a bit like saying why couldn't The Exorcist not have a supernatural element? Or why couldn't Candyman be just a guy killing people? Why does A Nightmare on Elm Street have to have a guy killing kids in their dreams? The movies/stories are what they are and the people making/writing them didn't add these supernatural elements as an afterthought. There's plenty of room in the horror genre for slashers, haunted house movies, monster flicks, etc. I for one thought The Midnight Meat Train was pretty awesome and was glad to see some good actors and filmmaking talent involved with a hardcore, balls out horror movie that didn't pull punches to try to get a PG-13.

I thought the twist was sci fi tbh

Nothing if that's what you're into, but maybe just go watch A Serbian Film if that's what you're looking for rather than whining that this movie isn't the rape and slaughter fest you dream of. It's not like there's a shortage of horror movies out there for you.

A slasher isn't barkers style, even Candyman had a lot of style same with Nix and pinhead.

When they end with supernatural creatures, it reminds me of this ending: and then he woke up.
