Where was the comedy part in this movie?

So I watched this movie yesterday expecting a "breath of fresh air" kind of movie, and one of the top "10 movies of the year" and a "heartwarming comedy"

After sitting and watching for 2 hours, I felt cheated in the end. Where was the comedy? where was the originality? Did all the other movies of 2007 suck so much, that this had to be a top 10?

Even if I had gone with with zero expectations, I would've found the movie boring at least. If you're a screenwriter/ producer and are asking the viewer to give you 2 hours of their lives, you better make it interesting and worth while.

These are the two things that bother me: Where was the comedy and why take 2 hours of my day with a delusional character and his doll friend to tell me that he should be accepted?

Man these boards are as dull as the movie was...wow..that explains a lot about the audience :)

Well the reactions they had the first time they encountered Bianca was pretty funny. Especially when his brother and his wife met her and sat there with their mouths open not sure what to make of it. Made me laugh anyway.

Focker, out.

I remember when I first rented this movie, I was depressed as hell with it. Then I saw it again on cable tonight, and I saw a completely different movie.
I'm sure that says more about myself than the movie, but I laughed at things I hated before. I really think Ryan Gosling was quite brilliant.
I have an entirely different opinion than I did when I first saw it.

Actually I think that happens to a lot of people with various movies, especially when they see it the first time with too high expectations. Not saying that's what you did of course, but I understand perfectly.

I do agree with the OP though that it was heavier with the drama than with the comedy. Still a good watch though in my opinion.

Focker, out.

Wouldn't this be considered a dark comedy?

"Death is too easy for you, BITCH!...I want you to suffer."

I liked this movie for what it was, but I did go into it expecting it to be funnier. It had its wry moments, but nothing that actually made me laugh. In fact, most of it made me quite sad because it was such an in-depth portrait of loneliness and illness.

I found it smart and interesting, but yeah, even calling it a dark comedy is a misnomer.

It was a more cerebral almost British humor... the reactions to Lars’ behavior with the doll and all.

My spouse and I couldn't stop laughing during the first scene where Lars introduces his new "friend". The looks on their faces and mouths agape was just priceless.

After that, there were seven or eight other laughs during the movie, but it was mostly a feel-good movie seeing the town rally behind Lars, and it was a very interesting movie in the plot content being quite unusual. I fully enjoyed the movie.

People first reactions?

Cutting her hair?

Calling 911?

Their first fight?

The lady telling Lars not to take Bianca for grated then then driving off?

The movie was full of funny moments.

Tonight was Scrabble night.

She is not petite Lars. She is a big big girl!

She's a missionary. (while dressed in fishnets, gold skirt, and boots)
