Why even call this "Foundation?"

So basically the only thing that bears any resemblance to the books is about a dozen words and names. Pretty much everything else is either made up or perverted. I still can't get over the magical mystical Vault that is nothing like in the novel and it's "null field" BS.

Yeah, it is not the show I had hoped for. Too much sloppy writing.

In the books, faster than light travel was invented thousands of years prior to Trantor ruling the galaxy and everyone used it. how exactly did humanity populate the galaxy if that technology is an imperial secret?

The people of Terminus had more advanced technology than the Empire soon after they were sent into exile. But in the TV series they are depicted as living in little more than a shanty town with left over bits of Imperial equipment.

reply

Agreed. It's been many years since I read it but if I recall correctly Terminus was already a settled, modern planet when they were exiled there. And you're right on about FTL travel. Basically just using the name for some buzz and otherwise a totally new story and characters.

reply

Based on what was in the book, I thought it was habitable but not populated by humans when they arrived.

this show was god awful and i found myself not giving a shit at all about any of them by the finale. i just finished the show to have closure. even the empire's story was boring by the end. the first the time the saboteur mentioned him removing his nanobots, i knew she was a spy.

Isn't this the way of things now? Cannibalize a recognizable IP name and then twist it into generic nonsense that carries none of the core concepts of the original. It's like wearing the skin of something and claiming to be that thing. I loved reading the books when I was little and nothing about this feels even remotely like them. I don't even get exited anymore when I hear news of "x is being adapted..." There's an amazing story to be told with the Foundation novels. Maybe one day we will get a series based on them.

I suspect the only people interested in things like this are people who never read / saw the original material. That is why we get things like liveaction remakes.

Of two minds, me. One hand, hate the butchery of Asimov's merger of two of his greatest creations, Foundation series and Robots of Dawn. In the books, the 'reveal' of R. Daneel Olivaw took place way aftar the events in the first Foundation trilogy. Instead, we have a female humaniform bot and it's common rumour she is a near immortal 'counselar' to the empire daynasty. We alslo get a female Salvor Hardin, due to what I suspect is rampant political correctness (We need more WOMEN charactars, and at least one of them needs to be a minority!) OTOH, the show is high quality & the changes made, though questionable in nature, hae kept my interest, far more than the dreck I would be watching otharwise.

Evan so, can't help but wondar, me, if 15 or 20 year from now, someone whill reboot the story true to the books.
