Do you like them where the person with the family is actually a trained killer (retired fbi agent or special forces guy) or do you like the ones where its just an average guy not knowing what hes doing learning as he goes?
I personally like the trained ones because it looks just even more badass when they know what they are doing
Personally, I like the ones when it's an average person. It gives it a much more realistic tone, and as a viewer I can more easily relate to it. It feels like it could happen to any of us, and if we were in that position, would we do the same thing?
Death Wish starring Charles Bronson will always be my superb favorite avenging movie. It practically started the whole average Joe at day to vengeful-killer at night genre.
The Punisher (2004) Man on Fire (2004) Get Carter (1974) Mad Max (1979) Taken (Not necessarily a murdered family, but yeah there's a trained avenger seeking his daughter) Kill Bill
Average:
I Spit On Your Grave (1978) (I know is a rape/revenge movie, but there is an average female seeking revenge) Death Wish (1974) Death Sentence (2007) The Virgin Spring (1960) Last House On The Left (1972) Straw Dogs (1971) The Brave One (2007) Thriller: A Cruel Picture (1973) Oldboy (2003)
cant believe u put oldboy in the averages... one of the best revenge stories ever! i recomend u watch it again =) Man on fire is one of my favs as well, although i prefer an average joe character
Usually I like the "average person" movies. My favorites are The Horseman, Oldboy, Harry Brown, Willard and Lady Vengeance; however, I also love Kill Bill and Taken.
