This Movie Can't Win...

I know all about the history of Motley Crue. I've seen them twice. I've never read the book, but knew all the stories of their debauchery, especially the disgusting stuff with Ozzy, haha. I've been excited for this movie ever since it was announced, but it probably should have been made a few years ago.

I enjoyed the movie. It won't win any awards (Bohemian Rhapsody shouldn't have won any awards either by the way), but it was entertaining, and did a good job telling the story of the band through the highs and lows. I even thought there were some genuinely touching moments in the movie if you can believe that.

However, today's ultra PC society will never let this movie be successful. I'm sure they will try like hell to bury it. You know, because it has tits and sex and groupies...things that really existed, but our "woke" society is trying to make us forget any of that ever happened. I went to rotten tomatoes (even though I swore off that corrupt site forever) really quick just to see how many of the reviews whined about sexism, etc. and wouldn't you know it, the first two reviews were women seething about the band's antics. They will never give the film a fair chance and simply judge the movie for what it is...the story of a Rock N' Roll band in the 1980's. All they see is sexism in everything anyway, so this movie just feeds them.

Not that I give a shit about crooked reviewers or Hollywood, but the media will fight this film to the core. I don't think it stands a chance in today's politically correct world.

Maybe that's why we need it now. And hey, who knows, maybe I'm wrong. I hope I am. Maybe it will be successful. I've talked to a lot of people who have watched it and liked it already. Long live Rock N' Roll!

I agree with you 100%! Well said. This movie may not win any awards, but perhaps it may reach some kinda cult status over the years. It was a smart decision putting it on Netflix, otherwise it would’ve tanked at the box office. This way it’s like a little dirty secret available for everyone to see at any time. Who knows maybe it will even cement a foothold and open the door for more biopics in the future. There’s lot more rock bands from that era that deserve having their stories told. Like Guns N Roses for example.

I didn't have a problem with the movie other than it was just...very shallow even with that subject material. The book was wild but it also had touching moments of some depth. This didn't get into much, and the beginning voice over was cringe-bad, although it did get better.

The thing about the "sexism" is, all of the women who were with the band members were with them willingly. They willingly opened their legs, mouths, whatever, because they wanted to be "with" a band member.

One thing I cannot stand (I know this strays from the topic a bit) is when former groupies, etc., bitterly tell their story as though they were some type of "victim" and were "used as a sex object". They willingly consented, don't whine about it now.

Exactly. In today's world, and in damn near ALL aspects of it, personal responsibility is dead.

...and as someone who thinks every sane human being should accept and value personal responsibility, it makes me sick to see so many people embrace the "victim", "everybody owes me something", "free shit for everybody" mentality of today's society, and the scariest part is the younger generation LOVES the non-personal responsibility era we live in. It's frightening.

I know that I made some poor decisions, but I take responsibility for them. Nobody forced me to make the decisions I made (ok, maybe except when I was a kid and had catholocism shoved down my throat, but that is another rant, I am speaking as an adult).

I'm a big heavy metal fan from the 80's but I can't stand Vince Neil and Tommy Lee. The fact that Vince killed someone in a drunk driving incident back in the mid 80's and he's been busted for drunk driving several times since is beyond pathetic. Tommy Lee went to jail for abusing his wife, his own kid beat him up for being a drunken/drugged out POS. These guys are just scum of the earth. I don't have any problems with Mick Mars or Nikki Sixx, compared to Vince and Tommy they're the Saints of Los Angeles and the rest of civilized society!

I can't stand them either. These people aren't to be idolized.

The point of my post was the movie being a documentary about what happened, and whether the people in it are likeable or not, since the movie is not "PC" in today's world, it will not be given a chance by the media, who are reviewing movies based on a social justice quota. To me, that's wrong.

There are a lot of great movies about terrible people out there. I'm not saying this is a great movie, but it was entertaining, and reviewers not giving a film a chance because of "un-2019" social behavior is ridiculous.

Yes, but at least Netflix green lit this movie and a lot of rock fans will watch it. If there's a decent book out there(in this case "The Dirt" obviously) then someone will make a movie out of it, even with scumbags like Vince Neil and Tommy Lee. I read the first five bad reviews on Rotten Tomatoes and the only one that mentioned today's PC world was that lady from L.A. Times(hint: she's an idiot) and the other four bad reviews were correct that it was just a bad Netflix movie, a weak biopic with too much thrown in all at once.
The real problem with entertainment today is they are lazy and formulaic and just churn out mediocre product over and over again. If they would have made a really great, inspired "Dirt" movie people would know about it and even more people would watch it, and the reviews would have been better. It's just not necessary, Netflix gets what it wants out of this and this movie did get a lot of viewers even though it's lame.
One insider says there's half the money in Hollywood than around 10-15 years ago. This explains a lot IMHO.

I don't know if you've read it or not, but the book contains a lot of embellishment...most of which can be attributed to their author - Neil Strauss.

I could care less what a couple of PC critics think about its sexism. All I know is that I'm tired of that trailer playing everytime I open up Netflix or finish something on it. I don't care what their AI algorithms might think: this is of zero interest to me and always will be. Just another excuse for me to do what I've been threatenimg to do for months: get rid of Netflix once and for all so I won't have to be subjected to its garbage original content I don't give a shit about.

It's on Netflix now and watching it for the first time. You are both right and wrong. Right in that every sjw now sees sexism everywhere, even in Captain America in Winter Soldier. You are wrong in that it is very ott sex and debauchery on screen, something that may be closer to truth but would've been subtly presented in the past. I love films and I'll watch from any year as long as I like it, 20s to present. And if you've seen films from different decades, you will notice that things got raunchier as years went by (excepting the 20s). Look at GOT, a great show up to season 4, yet look at all the nudity that isn't needed to push the story forward, just there for shock value. But hey, I think the sex and nudity here at least makes sense in the context of the film compared to GOT.

If I see a film or show today with either a female lead or anti Christian slant, I'll avoid both. So tired of their propaganda. If it was 20 years ago or earlier? Sure. But not now with so many sjw driven films.
