Was the PENIS scene necessary?
I think the movie could have been more popular without the PENIS scene and references.

sharedon't be such a prude, it's just a penis

And I am sure your opinion would be the same if it was an exposed vulva being displayed over and over again in numerous films. And please, don't tell me how femlaes are alawys nude in movies because it IS NOT accurate. At least in Amreican mainstream movies, new HBO series, and plays it is far more male frontal nudity than female frontal nudity. So, when, and if, the vulva starts getting the same exposure as male genitals, then get back to me about being a prude and it being no big deal. It has become a disgusting, tiresome double standard.

i dont see how seeing a flacid penis is equal to seeing the girl's vagina. If it was an erect penis, then yeah a girl with spread legs would be appropiate payback.
Secondly, a naked guy is just funny cause a guys body is just awkward looking most of the time. a girls body can be a work of art. and girls, theres always something more sacred about their bodies...a woman is gonna be the mother of someone someday, i wouldn't want to find out my mom did some naked thing on film years ago. if my dad did, it would be gross but funny.
Good point.
Also, I think that there are quite a few women that love to display their beautiful bodies and thus dont mind being naked. Men, not so much, but there are of course great looking male models that girls swoon for and not so great looking men that got the right attitude.
Even women that think the penis is a beautiful thing and should be shown should probably realize one reason you won't see it as much as breasts is....I guess some men still have hang ups over the size issue, and a flacid penis or one in a cold room with lots of people around can look like a frightened turtle haha.
That is just one point and of course not all men have that problem, but it shouldn't be an issue anyways. A penis is a penis, a vagina is a vagina, that simple.
Nothing wrong with a penis, vagina, or anything else like that being put on screen.
For the record I'm a straight male, and would love to see more scenes with spread-eagle babes!

it's a penis... all men got em... not quite sure people are so shocked when they see one.

But lolita dlores, it wasn't about the actor or the character being "good looking" while he was naked. The scene was what the scene was. (I still haven't seen the movie yet)
Let me understand: You'd be all right with seeing a "good looking" man's penis but you're turned off about a "not attractive" man's penis? Could you contrast good looking man vs not attractive man for my understanding? I consider that to be a very subjective opinion.
The longer I live the more I understand why true homosexual men are necessary in nature. I don't evaluate a man by his penis or even his "looks" alone. [smiles]

I was taken by suprise (at first).. I thought : 'Wow, I did not expect that' well at least not be shown.
However it didn't me bother me much, it was a pretty funny scene. Even funnier that it REALLY happend to Jason Segel and that he based that scence on one of his real-life breakups..
Dear Warden. You were right. Salvation lies within.share

I think both scenes worked. If it wasn't a comedy they would have probably done them more tastefully, but they had to go for the shock value. At the first scene, when we see him naked flaunting his 'real and imperfect' body saying something in the lines of 'I'm not getting dressed cause this will become real and you will really leave me', we immediately sympathize with him. His girlfriend, who is breaking up with him, is fully clothed and we perceive her as having the upper-hand in the relationship and his nakedness really helps establish that in an instant. It also makes him seem more vulnerable and gives him an everyman quality, since he is not dressed it is hard to tell what type of person he is. He appears naked again at the end of the film, when his new girlfriend suprises him in his dressing room. Unlike his former partner, who was apathetic to the whole naked thing, she finds it funny and laughs. He is embarassed at first but after a few seconds he isn't anymore. He is comfortable in front of her, not afraid to be seen vulnerable in his birthday suit. So the audience, like him, can tell that they belong together.
shareHere's another movie to add to the list of male frontal nudity...How To Lose Friends and Alienate People. During the "Strip tease" scene in the office with "Bobby" (who looks like a woman but is actually a man) there's a scene when "he/she" turns around and his penis is showing. I agree, it wasn't needed, but it was funny none the less. In regards to this movie I thought the end scene when he was changing when she came in was down right hilarious. And the scene where she breaks up with him as well-like someone said at some point (this is a really long thread) Jason Segel wanted that scene because it actually happened to him, which I think it very brave of someone to do.
shareMy God people. Its just a dick! They stuck it in there for cheap shock value and a cheap laugh. Male nudity can be funny, especially when you don't expect it.
shareThe penis scene at the end had the impact it did because it showed it. Stop being such a prude.
sharethe penis scene turned me off from watching the rest of the movie. maybe if he was more attractive or something it would of been okay. but i just felt bad for the actress who had to see him naked.
shareWow..........
The insecurity in guys today is astounding. Did it really bother someone THAT much? I didnt think of the scene in a sexual way at all, why? Because it was random and shocking. It was hilarious. I dont care for nudity in films, but to be honest boobs are shown left and right in movies and nobody cares because its a common occurance. God forbid a penis is shown. I just dont understand it. Guys really need to stop being so insecure and make it seem like a penis is disgusting, as if they didnt have one themselves. If you can see a female fully nude, whats wrong with seeing a guy fully nude? Both naked.
I personally think vaginas are nasty looking, boobs arent much better looking. But I dont go around complaining when they are shown constantly. Also, I dont "enjoy" when a penis is shown either. A naked person is a naked person, regardless of what sex or what im attracted too. Again, I didnt mind "the penis scenes" because I "like the way they look" it was just SO funny and unexpected. Very funny. Atleast in this movie showing a penis had a purpose. Yet in other R films topless girls are flaunting around like no tomorrow.
Movies arent made for a specific sex. So stop acting as if a sex oriented non porn movie is made for guys and will only show females nude. Sex involves a boy and a girl(well...in these movies, lol) so why not show both?
People really need to mature and grow the hell up.
