What really breaks my heart....

Is that all the "featured" suicides had family and friends to interview. I'm wondering about all of the jumpers who had absolutely no one. No family. No friends. No one who cared about them. And that's why they jumped -- they were completely and utterly alone. They never made it to the movie.

That really breaks my heart.

You can only hope they're happier now... wherever and whatever they are.

They're nowhere. They're just dead.

Shut up, David.

I wondered if the very first guy who jumped didn't fall into that category because no one spoke about him except for the windsurfer who didn't know him, only saw him jump.

Yes, fallfrost, it's sad to contemplate. But the connections the others had are no doubt why they were featured -- the film was built around the interviews and footage, and that's what decided who was featured.

The film did at least acknowledge all those who died in the year the film focused on, but a little detail of their lives -- maybe a brief biography for each -- would have been a good thing to have. It would have gone further to acknowledge them as people, more than just statistics or a roll call.

You might very well think that. I couldn't possibly comment.

I can see relatives and friends of jumpers not wanting to be interviewed. Without a doubt it was upsetting to them, then to have strangers put a camera on you and bring up all that pain and guilt? My family would refuse to be filmed/interviewed. I'm guessing a lot of jumpers came from families where people weren't all that open with their feelings.
