Unsatisfied with the ending

I felt so, sooo bad for Max. I thought it was unfair that Max doesn't get to keep his powers when both his siblings do. They should have just stuck with one Russo sibling winning. Yeah it would have been bittersweet but now it just feels awkward. I guess I'm biased though because I was always rooting for Max--Justin is obsessed with winning and being the best, Alex uses magic to make her life easier but Max is the only one who seems to love magic for itself. Poor Max always gets the short end of the stick and is always the isolated one out of the three siblings. I would have liked to see him on top in the end :(

I thought the ending was kind of meh. Not as good as the movie competition where there was a lot more emotion and consequence depending on the outcome.

What really bothers me though is this:
The show has never really had strict rules concerning the wizard universe. The writing was never consistent and usually stuff was just made up or ignored to suit the individual episode. So why couldn't they have abolished the whole one wizard per family rule? It's stupid, unfair, and tears families apart.

To me, the last episode just didn't really feel like a conclusion to the series.

I have suspected that the one member of the family being a wizard was a way of controlling the number of wizards they had.

reply

It has been implied throughout the series that wizard powers are a precious privilege to be bestowed unto the most deserving. Having competions and awarding the victorious one in each family is the best way to accomplish this.

im sorry mijja :C

why not let them all keep there powers
its kinda stupid that the entire reason for the competition was to award only one of them with getting to keep there powers
i personlly wouldnt want to live in a family of wizards and then years down to road lose my powers because of some stupid rule

reply

Apparently you would also lose thousands of years of future life because of that stupid rule.

And the winning and presumably "better" wizards have messed up wizard society so badly with their illogical laws and customs that the losing and presumably "worse" wizards could not make it any worse.

No wonder Stevie said it wasn't fair!

reply

I was unsatisfied as well, but more as they didn't show what happened to the Russos after the competition was over. You becoming a full wizard is pretty extraordinary, and I would think they would want to show how it changes their life and maybe Justin's office.

Wait, you were making fun of the people who thought what Stevie wanted wasn't all that bad, correct? Btw, I love your signature.

True, the competitions has torn families apart as it is with Jerry's siblings and Stevie and her brother. But if they don't have a goal then why are they training to become wizards? Also what if a sibling kept their powers because they went away with the competition and that kid eventually abused that power and committed crimes.

wizards who win their family competitions and supposedly are the best wizards in their families constantly abuse their powers and commit crimes. Wizard laws and regulations and customs seem one massive of abuse of magical power. Letting the losing siblings keep their powers could not possibly make things much worse.

This is how I pictured it would end with the maze. I pictured that Alex and Justin were neck and neck, about to cross the finish, but stop, and decide to jump in at the same time to both claim the prize of family wizard, they run and jump in... only to find that Max had already been there for several minutes, and Max became the family wizard, and then Crumbs retired, leaving the position as head master to Max, and granted him facial hair. But with the power of headmaster, Max granted the power of being a full wizard to both his siblings, and the it all ended.

I always figured they'd all give up their powers to their dad who is the one who deserved to have magic in the first place...

I just watched the finale today and I thought it was okay. I think it's probably good that Max didn't become a wizard. Didn't he release tons of monsters all over New York one episode and think it was a brilliant plan? I can't remember why he did that but I'm sure he didn't have that good of a reason.

The idea to give up their powers to their dad is brilliant! I would have loved that. It would have shown that they really do care about their family, which is after all the main message in the show. But then I'm sure they would have all been granted wizard powers because of their selfless deed. And that would have been an even bigger cop-out than the one we got.

Isn't it obvious that the world is safer with Max not havin powers anymore? he obviously was an instinctive and never quite understood that magic required study and respecting rules. His vision of life is just too weird, he'd wish for a juicy hmaburger of something useful like world peace.
But he made me laugh like mad all series long, just not someone I'd give magic poers to.
