At the end of the movie, when the water shoots up out of the ground, Meryl Streep says something to her daughter. Does anyone know what she says? For some reason the sound is distorted and my wife has watched that scene over and over again on the DVR trying to figure it out. Thanks!
Oh right. I knew Poseidon was the God of the Sea, but I thought Aphrodite was the Goddess.
Could have sworn Aphrodite had something to do with water. Why else would Donna say it when the place got flooded? Not just that, but Kylie Minogue's Aphrodite album/tour is very water-based.
I've seen the film five times now and I've never got onto a part where they mention Aphrodite's fountain. But that clears that little conversation up for me, so thank you. That must have been it.
Aphrodite was born from the ocean when Kronos's body pieces fell, thus creating foam and out came Aphrodite. I'm not entirely sure if there is a sea goddess, but Amphitrite is married to Poseidon and is called Queen Amphitrite. Maybe you mixed the names up. Even my teacher in grade 6 messed up the names.
Earlier in the movie either Donna or Sophie mentions the inn is built over Aphrodite's Fountain and Aphrodite is the Greek Goddess of love so I think they said that it was good luck for lovers if the fountain erupted.
About 12-15 minutes into the movie, depending on which version you're watching, Sophie is talking about the website and how they're going to draw in customers, and she says "This was once the site of Aphrodite's Fountain, she was the Goddess of Love" and at the end when the cobble breaks and starts spouting water, Donna says "It's Aphrodite!"
Yes, many tourists are into Greek Mythology and would visit Sophies' Island to see Aphrodite's Fountain. The island was having trouble making ends meet and this would fill up the rooms with tourists. This explains why everybody was overjoyed by the eruption of water!
