Just got done watching this movie. I knew it will be bad but why good actors like Steve Carrell, Steve Buscemi, Jim Carrey and Alan Arkin would associate themselves to such mediocre movies is something I do not understand.
The current rating of the movie is 7.2, I think whoever is reviewing is associated to this movie. Two thumbs down from for the stink pile of crap!
The tone is completely messed up in this movie... that's why even the few jokes that could have worked didn't. Just by the way this movie begins it's all off. A kid being told he has no friends and sad music playing with the title card. "Ready for some comedy everybody?!"
I didn't care for any of the characters until 45 minutes into the movie when Steve Carell actually played a character.

OP, I think perhaps you are being a little too kind. It was sort of a steaming pile of garbage. I am incredibly easy to please. So easy I even laughed at parts of this so called movie. But, even then I was aware that it was pretty bad. I liked the kid who was a fan of Wonderstone and a few other bits, but to call this a comedy is a stretch.

Sorry but you are technically inaccurate.
The film is average to good but it isn't funny at all and sadly it is a comedy lol so yes that is a problem but if it was a drama it is excellence lol
The film is well made and has lovely touches which showed someone cared and the performances are fine (except Steve who plays the same character again and again) and oliva wilde is basically the hot lay though beyond that it is a fun film, just short on laughs............if they could just have injected 3 seriously funny set ups it would have been a big hilarious hit but they r just not there...amusing YES but funny....NO, so sad for all :?

why do some people even watch movies???? its clear to me that on this IMDb site that you are all experts at film!!!!! I enjoyed it and would watch it again, it had some pretty funny parts. So I hope that gets under your skin that I liked it. Id give a 7 too.
shareWhile watching this movie (for "free" on a plane flight) and laughing my ass off for it sheer stupidity but enjoying every second of it I immediately knew that I could come here to find threads exactly like this one. For some bizarre reason the fact that so many people were going to hate this movie made my laugh even harder. Thank you, I used you all as tools to further my entertainment.
