Fools gold is an awesome movie. There was not one true flaw in this entire film. I am *beep* tired of you childish little pricks that have no real cinematic appreciation talking about film. Though I mean not to censor anyone, I am just annoyed at some of the reactions this film has received. First off, The whole occupation of treasure hunting or treasure salvaging is a rather fanciful career or even hobby . So if the film based on treasure hunting or treasure salvaging was not entirely authentic to reality the film could not be considered an inaccurate depiction nor was it flawed on premise. The acting in this film was actually quite good. Matthew McConaughey and Kate Hudson performed very well together, exhibiting all aspects of a couple in a relationship. Though the story was simple it was enjoyable and not once did I feel not entertained.
I couldn't agree more,brick, and ,if I may be so bold,the same could,and should,be said for SAHARA,a film close to McConaughey's heart.
And, keep in mind, FOOL'S GOLD is good enough for Clive Cussler to rip off for his "new" book series,FARGO,about a husband and wife treasure hunting team.

Yesss!!! you took the words right out of my mouth! i do not understand why everybody thinks sahara sucked?! Both Fool's Gold and Sahara are awesome movie's, and i sure wil watch them over and over again!
Cannot believe that this film is not in the IBDM top 250, if this does not get at least one "Oscar" there is something very wrong in the film industry.
Yhis has to be pure sarcasm... this steaming pile need to go straight to Lifetime, where it can be remade by Meredith Baxter Bernie. She's still alive, right?
Obviously there was some enhancement on Kate's t*ts for the promo photo. I'd go for Penelope in Sahara anytime, but she is far too talented and intelligent to star next to a retard like Matthew Mcconannaughthy.
I agree! I must have been sleepy when I saw this in the theater, because it didn't leave much of an impression on me. I'm glad I re-watched it. Now I appreciate details from almost every scene and look forward to seeing it again and again :)
I agree as well. Hardly an Oscar type movie, but a fun movie. A bit silly at times but not in a bad way. I thought I was going to hate it based on the reviews and the rating here. I woke up one morning and it was on HBO and got sucked in. I've seen it a couple more times on repeats and always stick through til the end.
I have to weigh in with the previous two posters; I thought it would suck, but Finn's passion and conviction is like a black hole that sucks everyone around him in, and revitalizes them. Not to mention he attacked two gangsters with a dull sword. Kate Hudson only needs to be seen. It's DEFINITELY entertaining, and I do not require more than that from a movie. I find myself on my 3rd viewing this morning on HBO. Good movie. I give it a 6.5/10

To the original poster, all I can say is WOW. Hey to each his own, but this movie was a true POS. People here are defending the story, but the problem is the terrible script and the putrid acting. This felt like watching a made for Disney adventure movie. A gangster that's about as intimdating as Chris Tucker. An obligatory scene with the token gay guys saying, "You go girl". And let's be real: This was another movie made just to have McConaughey shirtless. Hey, it draws the chics in right? What a waste of Ray Winstone's talent and an obvious attempt to polish off Donald Sutherland's career. I swear, someone must have had a gun to his head when he signed on to do this movie.
I totally agree! I was entirely prepared for it to be trite and unfunny, but I think the actors did a brilliant job - there was some wonderful comedic timing in there; the cinematics were perfectly decent quality; and the characters managed to dodge quite a few cliches that they easily could have gone for.
And after the film finished, I thought 'I bet this film has a really low rating on imdb'. Lo and behold...
I just watched this for the first time on my PVR and I agree with everything you said brick. I really enjoyed this movie! Now some of the comments in this thread... ummm. It was a good movie, but don't mock it with the imdb top 250 and "oscar worthy" BS. This movie was a taad bit longer than most movies of this genre, and not once did I feel not entertained. :)
i absolutely LOVE this movie! its just so light-hearted and witty and its just an honest to god feel-good movie! sure its not The Godfather per se but when i walk into the theater im not walking in expecting intricate story-lines and deep subtext, i go in to have fun and watch Matthew McConaughey and Kate hudson duel it out before falling in love again!
people need to remember why we go to watch these types of movis in the first place. to have fun.
