maybee because alot of pro black movies are really bad - in script etc.. anyone seen a spike lee jones movie.. LOL :)... ok ok know better movies had been made since, like: the meteor man.. LOL

Who's Spike Lee Jones? Some kind of hybrid of Spike Lee and Spike Jones? And yes I have seen many good movies of Spike Lee. Spike Jones's too.

Yea and she was on drugs and alcohol while driving. She left the man dying in the garage and then hid the body in a park. Four months later she (probably stoned and drunk as per usual) told about the incident someone at some party - laughing how she hit a white man (while she was crying like a fat pig in the court after being sentenced to 50 years). That's how she got caught.

Hopefully she spends all 50 years in prison. Good job done by jury BTW (as against retarded OJ jury.

It looks to be a great film about many things, but to have the character be Black would have been too difficult for many Americans to get around. You wouldn't be able to have a lot of the audience get past it to the fundamental themes of indifference to others, as well as how dehumanized the lives of most working-class Americans have become since most of us are barely making it. This can lead to people looking at each other as objects to be used, abused, and neglected. From what I understand, the film makes these points well, and Gordon is a very perceptive social observer and critic. There it is: the crux of why the character HAD to be anything other than a Black American.

People wouldn't have been able to get around it because if the lead was black then the actions would have been the expected ones.

It would've been just another day in the 'hood.

she never said she was white and one cannot determine if another is black based on their skin color, hair texture, eye color, dialect, etc.
the black woman could have very well looked exactly like her. it is highly possible. if you do not believe it, live more and you will.

So what! - The guy that this happened to in real life didn't survive either.

This is not the "re-telling" of a true event.

The movie was "BASED ON" something that happened, but it's not the "TRUE STORY" of what happened.

It seemed maybe Stuart Gordon hinted at the fact that the real life girl was African American.
Notice how Mena Suvari(a white girl) has her entire head covered in braids?
