you need to get your eyes off the video screen for a while and stick your nose in a dictionary for a bit. i tried to overlook "definately" since everyone seems to misspell it, and i'm guessing "obviusly" was just a typo... but "apaul"??? wow.
that said...
i'm not sure what video store you work in, but i've never met a video store attendant with taste. this past year or so i have heard them heartily recommend "man on fire", "23", "300" and "transformers". i don't think they are even sure that they have a foreign section. it's appalling.
i watch, i'd say, 3-5 movies per week and the more i watch, the more jaded i feel. i have somewhat unintentionally started watching more foreign movies than american-made movies, because the latter all involve the same 12 actors, making the same type movies with the same style endings. it's so tiring.
but this movie really caught me off guard. it was, as everyone has said, NOTHING like what the trailers set you up to think about it, and yet... while i hope i don't sound like i'm overstating this, i thought it was near perfect.
i was never quite sure where this movie was going and i appreciated that. and all along the way, i found myself laughing out loud at many of the scenes, but was still emotionally moved by others. the ending was a shock, but very appropriate and extremely real-feeling.
i see a lot of good movies. i thought this was easily one of top ten i've seen this year.
