Year of the Dog or Marley and Me

Which is the better dog film out of Marley & Me or Year of the Dog?

reply

Year of the Dog is not about the dog. It's about how he transforms his human into accepting herself and her needs and wants.

Both are good, but Year of the Dog is just great.

I'll take "Marley and Me."

I thought Year of the Dog was pretty good. I wanted to like it more than I did. But it didn't make me laugh or cry. Marley and Me did both so I'd have to go with it.

How can you even compare them? Two completely different films.

Well when I was watching Year of the Dog I was comparing it to Marley and Me. Both movies have dogs as metaphors or at least Marley and Me the book was like that. Jennifer aniston asked them to change it because she didn't want to be in a dog movie so Marley barely features in the movie. Both deal with deaths of dogs. Both are funny and sad.
So yes they are worthy of comparison.
If Marley and Me was closer to the book I would have picked that. But I loved the journey of self discovery in this movie and that it showed people in movie that aren't usually in the centre. Jennifer Aniston is the exact opposite and she never ages the ten years in the film.

I must say... Year of the Dog. One of the best movies out there right now.

"Year of the Dog" by far. "Marley & Me" was basically a children's film, and an irresponsible one at that. This movie would appeal to children as well as adults, and unlike "Marley," it's likely to inspire interesting conversations, if not arguments.
