Great acting, too. I really felt her character, it's a shame she disappeared in the middle of the movie.

Yea I agree, her acting was horrible. She was basically a slut one moment, a junkie the next and a sooky little schoolgirl type. Just 3 stereotypical characters basically.

That scene with Joaquin Phoenix where he's doing the police exam and they have an argument, look at her after they yell really intensly at each other and she like "I HATE YOU!" and right after that shot it shows her sorta swaying on the couch....it looked so fake. Almost like she was a 13 year girl old not getting a pony for her birthday. It didn't look anything like a woman who was about to lose one of the most important things in her life.
That scene really stuck out for me. The rest of the cast/scenes were awesome. I've got nothing against Eva Mendes but I don't think she's hot at all. Great bod and stuff but yea there's heaps hotter girls in hollywood, I couldn't care less about Eva. Seems like a nice girl thou and from interviews seems very down to earth and smart.
Eeeew, Eva Mendes was horrible! Even at the sex scene at the start, I didn't find her convincing! Her performance althroughout the movie was cringe-worthy! I was embarrassed for her! But maybe she had a small part in the movie, and wasn't passionate about it? I've seen her do better! And still, she's pretty bad...
She was just horrible in that scene. Glad I'm not the only one who noticed how bad her acting was.

While I'm not disagreeing with you that she uses a double, I find it hard to believe she used a double for this movie. That's some really amazing computer trickery if they put her head on that body. Similar to Angelina Jolie in Wanted. As anorexic as Jolie looks much of the time, she was spectacular walking out of the water.

I have an old friend from school, actually my first crush, that looks so much like Eva. She is the only girl in my adult life that I'm nervous to talk to every time I see her ... she's that beautiful.
So yeah, I'm quite an Eva fan, but I wouldn't say her acting was so great, at least not in this.
Wow. Eva is a bad actress? Certainly not in my eyes. I found her very convincing in the few movies I've seen her in (including this one). And I believe the term "bad" is used WAY too loosely. Her acting was not the best, but "bad" it was not.

I recently saw an early film she costarred in with Scarlett Johanssen. Eva acted circles around her.

as far as acting talent goes, I'd say shes average, she hasn't blown me away in any movies but I wouldn't call her horrible.

Eva Mendes is overrated in looks and in acting talent. She has a big nose, fake lips, fake tan, and everything about her unattracts me. Also, she is blow average as an actress.

I won't try to change your opinion.
But....Her looks were very specific to the part, according to James Gray. He wanted the look of the 1960's style Italian bombshell, a Sophia Loren type. She definitely fits that description.
Personally, I find her attractive. She, like Loren, is not a stereotypical beauty.
She did a good job with her part. It wasn't the most challenging character, but she made the most of it. She has improved with each film. She has a sweetness about her that's comes through.

That's a great film noir shot. No wonder it made it into the trailer even though it's such a brief shot.
