Completely Shut Out of Academy Awards

How annoying! A great film like this which is better than a lot of the other stuff nominated doesn't get any recognition

Paramount is clearly to blame for this movie only getting one nomination. There's no reason for this movie not to get a Best Picture nomination. Over at Rotten Tomatoes, top critics have given it an average rating of 7.6, the same rating that Lion has, and a higher rating than Hacksaw Ridge (which has a 7.4). Brad Grey and the rest of the Joozians at Paramount clearly hate Silence; otherwise, they would've given this movie a much more aggressive Oscar campaign.

If I were Scorsese, I'd move The Irishman to another studio (like Warner Bros., perhaps, where Scorsese made The Departed, the movie that finally won him an Oscar). I'd be pretty f-ing stupid not to, given Paramount's way-too-shabby treatment of Silence.

..Andrew should've got nominated for this, period. Oscars are just a popularity contest.

So, The Silence is a good movie?

Uh, yes.

reply

Oh.

reply

Because it's about Catholics and doesn't have any black people or women in major roles.

reply

No, it's because Paramount has murdered this movie.

reply

Not really. It wasn't that good.
