Or did the movie just have no time to show it?

When Hopkins was going to pull the plug, for instance, some of the wife’s family would’ve wanted to stop it, especially as Hopkins was just accused of trying to kill her. No family appeared in the courtroom during trial. Nobody in the hospital. Nobody spoke to the ADA.

While not common, it's not unheard of for someone to not have any close family (e.g. foster children, family disputes, maybe disowned when she married the husband). For all intents and purposes though it's his decision to turn off the machines as her next of kin.
