Was this movie partially hurt by the PG-rating?
Superhero movies are typically PG-13? There are some notable exceptions like the Deadpool, Blade movies, and Logan being R-rated. But superhero movies (at least since Tim Burton's Batman back in 1989) are by rule, commonly given the middle ground rating. With the PG rating, I wonder if people who didn't care much about the 2005 Fantastic Four movie, just wrote it off as a toothless kids movie. You can make the argument that the 2008 Speed Racer movie killed off the notion of the PG-rated live-action blockbuster movie.
