Am I the ONLY comic book fan that LOVES these movies?

I grew up reading the FF along with other Marvel titles. I'm a DC fan and love the optimism of their characters (save Batman - though he's cool). Thats probably why I love the FF. It's because they're not all angsty. They're heroes because the choose to be instead of a vengence/discrimination route most Marvel titles take on. Mainly because they were created to rival The Justice League.

But they hit the nail on the head with these films. The first family of Marvel is corny and full of cheese. If you dont like that, then you wont like these films. Therefore, to say these aren't good films are incorrect regarding the SOURCE MATERIAL.

I enjoyed watching this film more than The Dark Knight (which was excellent).

I never read comic book but I like theis movie. The first one is OK since Mr Fantastic and Susie Storm weren't quite fit into their characters but in the 2nd one, they are better especially Mr. Fantastic. Johnny Storm is consitent with his character from the start and I like him since he cracked me all the time with his immature but funny personality. Love to see how evil Dr. Doom gets. too. I think they should do a 3rd sequel soon!

I am just a regular person but a Unique one, not a clone type person.

Yes, The Fantastic Four comics were corny, but they haven't shown enough of that in the movies. The first movie showed more sexual innuendos. Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer was closer to the comics than the first movie. Plus, a lot of people don't like the characterizations of Jessica Alba and Ioan Gruffudd. I didn't at first either but they've grown on me. I still think someone else could have been better cast as Mr. Fantastic but Ioan isn't as bad as I once thought he was. Jessica was definitely cast for her body, though she's sort of on the basis of the Ultimate Sue Storm version.

I read comics, but i never really read FF, however i really like these movies, they're just fun action comedies which don't take themselves too seriously, and i like that. They remind me of Spiderman, but unlike Spiderman, the tone of the movie pretty much stays the same throughout it. Personally i don't think a reboot is the right idea, the cast of characters has shown that they know the characters well and are still interested in making new movies.

The Fantastic Four has always typically been a lighter comic book. You're right, they aren't motivated by revenge or some darker purpose. They are first and fore-most, a family. While they had adventures, many of the problems that the FF faced were family problems. Reed being too uptight and scientific. Johnny being reckless and head-strong. The Thing always upset about his appearance, and Sue trying to keep everyone together. Cheesy, yeah, but it works, which is why the FF have always been very different from any other "team-oriented" superhero group. This is because they have always cared about each other on a level that's deeper than a teammate; in short, (here comes some more cheese!!) they love each other.

I collected comics for over 15 years, and it was one of the few comics that was embraced by both male and female readers.

Hah! But seriously, this movie sucks.

Contrary to popular belief, it is impossible to overdose on marijuana... though many have tried.

Yeah,Good riddance to this Garbage take on classic characters. FF deserves better and I hope they up the action as well.

I have to agree with, TheAmazingSpidey on this.

This is an exert from an essay I've written on the two films.

Was the Fantastic Four movies bad? Yes, absolutely. Were they the worst movies ever? No. The Fantastic Four movies were only at fault because they were both poorly-executed productions. This franchise was not bad when you look at the dynamics behind why the franchise was even worth anybody’s investment. It was a sure thing to the audience because it’s a movie based on a highly-popularized about a group of dysfunctional superheroes who are a family. Because superheroes are so popular to the film industry (all thanks to Spider-Man and X-Men) imagine why people flew to the theaters like a flock of sheep on opening night.

It is misleading when people are putting them in the ranks as the “worst superhero movies franchises ever” or a “debauchery”, as what film the film industry have considered such movie flops like 1997’s Batman & Robin or 2004’s Catwoman. The problem isn’t that the films weren’t dark enough like others would have wanted it to be. Fantastic Four have always been a source material that never included overly-violent content with angst-ridden superheroes or sex. But, when it came to the fundamentals of writing, special effects, acting or entertainment value, the film was summed as “mediocre”.

I really like the Fantastic 4 movies as well. But with comic book characters especially you have people who are very attached to the characters and see them in a certain way and are unwilling to change that. I think the cast was great for the movies, great effects, entertaining, funny, great films.

I like them, tho not classics they're hugely enjoyable in a popcorn kind of way. The FF story doesn't need 'darkening' like frikkin' Batman, it's meant to be cheesy and kitsch. These films were fine, they don't need a reboot that will probably fail anyway.

Old post, but I also really liked this movie. It deftly tied together several key sixties storylines into one. I preferred the more mysterious Galactus to having a purple guy standing over the city, which worked great for Kirby comics. While I was never crazy about the tweaking to Doom, Julian MacMahon is a great villain actor - he would make an incredible Luthor. I love the part where he dispassionately informs the four that he hates them. I liked that we saw Latveria in this flick, and his attempts and eventual success at stealing the Surfer's power were classic.
