Give me animes that are more depressing than this..

Anyone know of any? I'm pissed because I was watching this on youtube and accidentally viewed the top comment on the last episode and it spoiled the ending.. I think it would have been much more moving had I not known the ending. But yeah, super depressing animes like this please.

I didn't find it that depressing since its heavily implied that she survived.

"Its not (always)about the destination, but about the journey."

Agreed the end might not be depressing, but lets rewind a second.

Lets think about the parts where

Lucy is young and feels excluded.

Kohta's family is murdered and he begs her to stop.

Mayu runs away from home and finds shelter at the Kaede House.

Chief Kurama has to perform his duties of killing newborn Diclonius.

These are some of the instances which personally I feel are sad.

Also 5 Centimeters per second...

That will make you want to kill yourself :D
It also has probably the most beautiful artwork i've ever seen in my life, both in anime and irl.. Makes avatar look like a childs game...

Kemonozume is an amazing anime you should watch. It's more mature than this, and more weird, crazy and unbelievable. Sadly, it's graphic quality is sometimes below acceptable.

Evangelion (along with its movie End of Evangelion) is quite similar to this anime in several ways (but it's better in every aspect).

'What has been affirmed without proof can also be denied without proof.' (Euclid)

Gantz is depressing at times. It's also very good.

I agree Neon Genesis also.

Anohana is a pretty sad anime.
If you want anime that was similar to Erufen Rito then Future Diary is close.

Not for the original commenter probably, as it has been 2 years, but for people reading this thread.

Most Makoto Shinkai's works are similar in style. Not necessarily depressing, but will leave you thinking. "5 Centimeters Per Second" already mentioned here, also "The Garden of Words". You may also like "The Place Promised in Our Early Days".
"Grave of the Fireflies", also mentioned already by several people.
"Barefoot Gen" - not sure if it's depressing, but contains some really sad and shocking scenes.
"Evangelion", but necessarily with EOE (original 25 and 26 episodes are crap).
"The Sky Crawlers", very beautiful and sad film by Mamoru Oshii.
Strangely noone mentioned "Texhnolyze" yet.
"RahXephon" - many people compare it to Eva, but it's very good and sad IMHO as well.
"Haibane Renmei", one of my favorite.

From the New World, that's a real downer, so dark,
Paranoia Agent,
all the Little Busters series,
Look these up on myanimelist and see what recommendations they give.
Also I'm inclined to agree with all of the abovementioned, but I can't be bothered typing them twice.

it's not depressing it's dumb.

We live in Matrix, don't say otherwise.
