Great timing. 15+ years later.

reply

Not so great now, in fact I could see it being quietly delayed. then cancelled (the fact it was finally going ahead was probably mostly due to Smith about to win the best actor oscar)

reply

Yeah, seems likely....

reply

Yes. Unless Smith decides to drops out (or perhaps is 'persuaded' to)?

reply

It's still in development at least. It would be pretty awesome if we'd get a sequel to this and 28 days later in the near future.

Another tentpole is the sequel to I Am Legend, the 2007 film that grossed $585 million worldwide. Studio has been trying to crack it for years, and Goldsman would not say how Jordan fits into the last-man-on-earth storyline, but said the film will lean into the Richard Matheson novel the original was based on.

“This will start a few decades later than the first,” he said. “I’m obsessed with The Last of Us, where we see the world just post-apocalypse but also after a 20-30-year lapse. You see how the earth reclaims the world, and there’s something beautiful in the question of, as man steps away from being the primary tenant, what happens? That will be especially visual in New York. I don’t know if they’ll climb up to the empire state building, but the possibilities are endless. We trace back to the original Matheson book, and the alternate ending as opposed to the released ending in the original film. What Matheson was talking about was that man’s time on the planet as the dominant species had come to an end. That’s a really interesting thing we’re going to get to explore. There will be a little more fidelity to the original text.”

could this be the first time a sequel has ever used an alternate ending (not used in the original theatre) from the original/previous movie?

i guess others that might qualify

-Ash v Evil Dead (using the SMart ending of Evil Dead 3 not the apolcalpyse ending that was released in some regions like UK)?

-Superman Returns (possibly using the Richard Donner Cut of SII)??

-BR2049 kind of uses the BR Directors Cut which is now the definitive version (and where Deckard is quite possibly a replicant)?

but this would be the first that spring to mind for something as blatent as to change the fate of the lead character (pretty much Halloween full on retcon territory)

Thanks

Well, it's NOT a bad story line, They've made 4-5 versions of it already. Don't think we need to see Will in the same movie again but he's no doubt looking for work, after the Slap heard round the world

reply

He's been forced to make shitty outdated sequels long before the slap and Oscar ban. He's a joke, box office poison and a terrible actor and human being.

reply

... Didn't his character DIE already?? He literally blew himself up at the end of the movie... HTF are they gonna resurrect him?

reply

HE LIVES IN THE ALTERNATE ENDING....WHICH IS THE ENDING THEY ARE GOING WITH TO MAKE THE SEQUEL.

reply

I do know that... But as far as the general public is concerned... Anyone who didn't watch the alternate ending is gonna think he's dead. It's still an inconsistency.

reply

I AGREE...THE WHOLE THING FEELS STUPID...BUT THAT IS HOW THEY ARE SHAKING THIS THING OUT.....I BET THEY SHOW THE ALTERNATE ENDING OR SOME VERSION OF IT AS THE OPENING OF THE SEQUEL.

Good god man, turn off you caps lock :-P

SORRY...IT'S A 25 YEAR GIMMICK...TURNING THEM OFF WOULD BE LIKE PEELING THE SKIN OFF MY SCHLONG.
