Why the hell do people care so much about the dog?!?! [spoiler]

I saw this recently on DVD and thought it was surprisingly entertaining. Well paced, tense and kept you guessing.
I come on the message boards to see what people think and there are so many people talking about the dog! Even saying they wouldn't watch the film knowing that [spoiler alert] the little fella gets munched.
I just don't get it. Yes he's a cute dog. I love dogs. But this is a horror-thriller with people (actual people) being eaten alive. Surely if you're going to find any of this disturbing it should be that?

People don't care about people.

If you think this is bad, consider what I've heard where people see a dog walking with a homeless person and they are enraged with the homeless person for "condemning" a dog to suffering from hunger. They don't give a damn about the fact that the person is starving also.

This is why I can't stand many dog lovers. That, and that they often don't give a damn about any other animals either and can sit there and do nothing while looking at a picture of a river full of the blood of slaughtered dolphins without blinking but want people jailed for smacking a misbehaved dog on the butt.

And when you really drill down to the reasons given for loving dogs so much a lot of the time? It's because the people loving them want something for nothing. They substitute dogs for people because dogs will continue to love them and all they have to do to earn it is show up. The love of people is conditional, and that sort of thing is way too much for the over entitled and self absorbed to put up with.

Homeless people in the US have plenty of options. There are homeless shelters all over. I know I have volunteered at homeless shelters they actually get great food. All of the restaurants and grocery stores in the area donate. Having a dog when you can't afford to take care of it is cruel and its often a ploy by people who are chronically homeless by choice to garner sympathy *beep* homeless people with dogs.

kascha-klaussen, you are a very ignorant person.

Animal lovers value an animal's life over a humans. They're just stupid, weird people.

I am Djour Djilios. could you spell that please? I don't think so. Try it with a "D".

Why should a dog's life be valued less than a humans? They're no more violent and destructive than we are and they (like most animals) have just as much ability to feel pain and fear as we do. And they've lived among humans for more than 15,000 years, contributing to society and development a lot more than most of us care to realize. When you think about it, if we as a species never domesticated dogs, we'd still be cave dwelling savages hunting with rocks and spears.

Most people love animals and do not want them killed in a film!! While this film was perfect I think it could have ended better! When you heard the dog make the yipe sound, you assume he was a goner and why wouldn't you?? My perfect ending would have been..... while she was thanking him for her life, you hear a dog barking and low and behold that darling little pooch appears!! It would have put a smile on your face especially after seeing so much violence! The dog shouldn't have died....IMO!! It put a damper on the film !! Do you agree?
