Why aren't there any Black People in Moralton?

I notice the only "colored" people in town are the Figurellis.

Now throughout the series there are hints that the people of Moralton are intolerant towards african americans, they even refer to them as "Negros" as in Clay's record "Non-threatening Negro Comedy" as well as a picture of the only possible black man ever seen in the series.

Also one of the books Ms. Censordall is about to burn other than the Necronomicon Ex Mortis (the book of the dead) is a copy of "How Stella got her groove back"

now can anyone figure out why are there no african americans in Moralton?

Well one thing that comes to mind is that they seem to be stuck in kind of a 1950's suburbia where there simply were no black people. At least, not in the kind of place where Orel's family would live. Hell when my grandparents bought the house I'm sitting in as I type this (back in 1953) the realtor knocked $1,000 off the price because a black family had moved in next door. Fortunately my grandparents were pretty progressive for their day.

It's displaying the veiled intolerance of the people of Moralton. They rejected the people that said the lord's prayer differently, you think they'd accept a black family?

By the way, to everyone reading I'm not saying there's anything wrong with having different religious views or being black, just that the people of Moralton would think there was.

It wouldn't surprise me if the citizens of Moralton were members of the KKK.

Well if they're anything like my town (and unfortunately they are) only a few would be actual members, but most of them would look the other way when the KKK was doing anything.

Actually the episode "In God's Image" does explain what happens to the "minorities" in Moralton...

The Black people live in another town, and there's an episode when Orel and Clay treat riding through the town as if it's a ride. The Asian people live in another town also. It's supposed to make a point about the people of Moralton. Of course they're racists.

Black people would complain if there were Black Characters in Moralton, so why bother?

in one episode, the priest is praying for a girlfriend. he even goes any size, any shape, any age, any col..any height. i'll go with the kkk theory

Because whoever is writing this show has some misconceptions about Christians. I find this show funny for reasons I'm sure it was never meant to be.

The racism isn't a direct reference to Christianity (which was used to justify a lot of racism, despite the modern revisionism you see) but of people and sitcoms from the 50s and some of the 60s. The premise of the show is not exclusive to parodying fundies.

Well I'm watching more episodes and realizing that. If it were I'd expect to the parodies to be better. Christians don't agree on everything. I know that there were many Christians that supported civil rights. EVERY organization has people that are on the fringe. It is not right to use the fringe to bash the rest of the group.

There's only one Jewish family too and the one Jewish doctor. The idea is that small town America, espicially in the 1950s, there was the belief everyone was white and for anyone other than white Christians to be around was seen as strange. Moralton is a bigot's utopia.

there is no other ethnicity either, its just how the setting is.
At least for the show, you can make an excuse of it being done purposefully for the characters way of living.

Moralton is extremely geographically segregated. For instance, Black and Asians have their own areas like a separate Chinatown.
