the REAL reason why this movie flopped.

- Even before it came out everyone kept talking about stupid *beep* like the characters ACCENTS?? so *beep* stupid. "Since when do Persians have British accents?" litrilly THE stupidest thing I have ever heard.. SINCE WHEN DO ANCIENT PERSIANS SPEAK *beep* ENGLISH??? retards.. its a *beep* movie. Do you understand how STUPID it would sound if they where speaking with a Persian accent??

- Everyone, APART from PERSIANS complaining about why Persians are being portrayed by "white actors".. this one pisses me of the most because when the movie 300 came out it was properly ALL You idiots that actually went and watched it, but then DIDN'T complain ONE BIT, by how racist the movie was!! NOTHING. Even now everyone is like "it wasn't a documentary" etc.. it really gets on my nerves, if your really worried about racism then where the *beep* where you when 300 came out?

Some stupid Americans and Europeans telling US what we look like. Go *beep* your selfs okay? honestly.. you don't know *beep* You haven't ever been to Iran, so stop talking about something you don't have a clue about. Im not saying ALL Persians are white. Im saying in Iran we have Persians with different skin tones..

My best friend is English, im *beep* MORE WHITE than him. His ENGLISH!! In Iran, we have people who are WHITE, TANNED, BROWN and even BLACK!!! And the fact is.. this is a Hollywood blockbuster, I dont think we actually have a Persian actor who is capable of being in a movie as big as this..

Everyone is to busy thinking about stupid stuff, your not really letting your self enjoy the movie? that is the REAL reason this flopped everyone went into the movie with a negative view, you only saw the bad stuff about it, its not a perfect movie, but it deserves a much higher rating than 6.7

Everyone, APART from PERSIANS complaining

With respect, not everyone apart from Persians are complaining. I'm a white American who was perfectly fine with the casting and understood that, especially prior to the Islamic invasion of Persia, there were/are white Persians (hell, Persia included/includes the Caucus mountains which I believe is where the word Caucasian comes from, isn't it?)

So please don't lump the rest of us into one category. Some of us actually have brains and use them

I am sorry for making a generalization, it was wrong of me :)

I agree with you, I live in the UK and love this movie. Never really understood all the negativity about it though, i really enjoyed it

hope it gets a sequel

It isn't the first time people decided to complain about a Disney film and it's realism, let alone it being based off a game that had an English cast.

Talking toys.. Houses that float with balloons.. A wardrobe that connects you to another world.. Persian's that sound British? How dare they!

reply

Americans are absolutely infatuated with race, probably moreso than Nazi Germans, they can't stop arguing and talking about it.

reply

maybe that's because white americans are really racist and everybody else is kind of bothered by that...

What?! This paragraph was so wrong it hurt my brain and I couldn't finish the rest of your post. People didn't complain that 300 was racist? lolol

I am a leaf on the wind - watch how I soar.

reply

No... PERSIANS complained that 300 was racist. NOT Americans, nor Europeans. It was US.

Now, it is Americans and Europeans claiming THIS is racist, when its the furthest from it.

The British accent is appropriate because it sounds old; and British English IS much older than American. When actors speak American English, it sounds more modern. And that's not what you want in a movie like this.

It didnt really flop, it was the first movie. It was strong but then died down quickly. I dont know why American audiences are extremely unforgiving on movies. This movie was great. Also, this movie did NOT FLOP. Worldwide income was $335,154,643, i have no idea how much DVD and Bluray sales were but that adds to it obviously. The Prince of Persia "brand name" has more recognition because of this movie, so a 2nd movie would obviously do as good or better in box office. Movie ticket prices have gone up every single year for the past decade so a movie in 2013 might sell lower amount of tickets as a movie in 2012, but the 2013 movie would make more due to ticket inflation. Box office companies know these things, so i am not sure why they are hesitant on green lighting a sequel.

I thought the reason this movie flopped was because Jake Gyllenhaal looks like a complete twat in the get up he's made to wear.

Oh and Captain_Augustus_McCrae shut up you wanka

It didn't really flop, it was the first movie
I would venture to say if the budget was $200 million (which Box Office Mojo reports it at), then a world wide return of $335 million makes this movie a flop. Depends upon what the back end revenue was.

I personally just loved this movie.

But, if anyone wants to know why I think this movie flopped, to me it is because they cast Jake Gyllenhall in the lead as the Prince of Persia. He was very good in the role actually (once you sat down in the movie seat and started watching) But, when my boyfriend suggested that we see the movie, and I said who was in the lead? And he replied "Jake Gyllenhall" I thought that was very ODD casting. Because Jake usually plays the book worm kind of indie characters.

I think that first instinct I had, a lot of other people had and just decided to pass. Even Orlando Bloom would have been a bigger draw I think. And, I agree with the other posters here, there are a lot of really good looking talented Persian actors out there that could have really rocked the role.

Again, Jake was very good, but I just don't think people link him with a Persian, and that sloughed off interest.

I really like this movie. Especially since it is actually one of the better ones that based off video games.
