I'm persian / let me tell you something

All the persians are white ... not like the crap 300 ...it was all lie .

about prince himself : i think he is half persian ... the blue or green eyes!!! maybe 10% of persians have colored eyes .

about casting : golshifte farahani was one of the choises for Tamina .. but because of the leaders of our country ( that i realy realy hate )... she was not allowed to leave so they gave it to Gemma Arterton .

Ben kingsley played a persian Character in ( house of sands and fog ) ... so i think the best choise for Nizam .

Alfred Molina ... has a persian face ... so another smart choise .

and Jake Gyllenhaal exacly like a half persian . please don't say about bad casting .

i do not saw the film yet . as some of you know ... in iran ... we dont have ( copy right) so i must waite for good Quality .. and download it .

last Tip : some maybe say about ... wooowww persians are heroes ... and americans made a film that show them in good Perspective ...and .....

the truth is every man in this F...ing planet . are all like the same . so i dont care about i'm persian ... or i have a good history and that *beep* . i just want a good life ...

This entire post is quite sad given it's 2011. That said, I think it's important to understand that "white" is a term relative to culture.

In the U.S., the label of "white" was legally reserved for those people who had less than 1 drop of "Negro" blood. It was called, The 1-Drop Rule and echoes of those laws still color many conversations about race.

This lead us to an irony not yet mention within this thread and that is there are "black" people who are "white" or passed as so.

So while people are arguing about whether or not Persians are white, it should give us all pause that some people who are indeed "black", nonetheless have white skin and thus the absurdity of the conversation comes full circle.

Here's an example that just came to mind first: http://www.imdb.com/media/rm820019712/nm0395043, but it shouldn't be too hard to think of more contemporary examples.

The Persian empire was quite big so I think in that time Persians could look like anybody, white, yellow, black, brown.
But it's a good post, and I liked the movie. I had low expectations because every time someone tries to turn a videogame into a movie they failed but this one was pretty good and amusing also.

You forgot:

Alexander III. of Macedonia kicked your butt. In the worst way.

Aren't persian sort of heavy-tanned / bronze-ish like color
with a hint of red?

surely not "plain white". Otherwise they wouldn't survive the hot climate

You do realize that the majority of the Persian army under Xerxes was comprised of dozens of non-Persian battalions.

By the time the battle at Thermopylae occurred (the location of 300) the Persian army had conquered so many nations that only a small section of it were Persian natives.

Indians, Libyans, Arabians, Sagartians, etc were all present at the time, so the fact that the soldiers you saw in the movie did not match a typical Persian native's complexion is irrelevant.

This will never happen until Islam is banished around the world.

totally agree Cyberella

lmao. I know a lot of persians, kurds, turks and all that stuff and they would never identify themselves as white.

reply

they are not white like western people but they still white, they are not colored, i deal with a lot of iranian people every day and they are white.

any way, i saw the movie and i played the games too and i see that every thing from the clothes to the places and to the existence of the hashashin in the movie, it's persia after islam, where everything look so Arabian, not even close to the persian style during the days of persian empire!! you can search about it and you will see a huge difference between prince of persia in the movie and in the games and the real Persia in history. so i think he's more like from Iraq

i live in UAE (united arab emirates) some people call it "Dubai", there are a lot of Iranian people live in UAE, Persian history is a part of middle east history, so it's a part of our history

reply

thanks for your respond .i have traveled 3 or 4 times to Dubai. it is very great city

reply

Yes, but that wasn't the ridiculous part. The ridiculous part was that Xerxes himself did not look Persian. He didn't even have a beard. He looked like an ancient Egyptian.

I think there is a misunderstanding here , white just doesn't mean skin color but also it includes the features of the face too , many Iranians have a white skin color but their features aren't like Europeans nor Indians (many people from other countries think like that) its something that you should come Iran to understand to see how diverse is , you can find any look here :)

I personally think that Disney should have used Persians, not Americans, Icelanders, whatever else, with accents... were any Germanic languages even spoken in this era in Persia?
