"Paddys Pub: The Worst Bar in Philadelphia"
When watching this season 4 episode for the twentieth time perhaps, I read into a deeper story within the context of the recurring joke on the critic that he is a f@ggot as called by Sweet Dee.
At first glance its just for politically incorrect laughs, but what if Dee is right and he is Gay? Why does this matter?
Well I always wondered why the heck this critic would not have gone to the police as soon as he woke up in his own bed away from the kidnapping.
Notice in the episode they make it a point to call him gay in such a derogatory and strong way. This insult from Dee prompted the critic to proclaim that Paddys Pub is the worst bar in Philadelphia in his article. One could easily surmise he is correct as the gang are terrible people, yet in their defense they have regular customers. And there are several scenes through the series where they address regulars and treat them with joyful respect. "Dee the Postal Worker" being a highlight for them treating a customer so well and inviting. What prompted Dee to call him gay like this? Did she throw the critic some not so subtle advance in flirtation to be turned down promptly and then later insulted him when she found the chance? The only other exception to them insulting customers is when they invited the snobby bar association and realized they wouldnt win best bar xD in the season 9 episode "The Gang Tries Desperately to Win and Award". Otherwise we dont really see or hear about them insulting any other customers during the shows run. If Im wrong please let me know and include the episode!
Theres also the bathroom scene involving the critic proclaiming he needed to go pee. Mac and Charlie dont want to untape him so they both unzip his pants and hold the critics genitals in order for him to aim and pee. Then they all leave the bathroom in such an awkward funk and charlie says "Did he get hard on us" for both Mac and the critic to embarassingly ask for Charlie to just stop talking.
This would strongly imply the critic is gay. And maybe the reason for the scathing review is he felt especially insulted by the derogatory comment. I had a coworker who was gay and told me that the worst insult, the one he absolutely hated being called in his life, was f@ggot. So the critic would have understandably been outraged.
Also the critic being basically sexually assaulted and yet getting aroused by it. would be another reason for him to not wanrt the police involved? Maybe he is married with children and has this secret he wants buried from them? Otherwise you oughta be calling the cops as soon as you have a chance after being kidnapped!
This shows the writers had found a way to have the gang perpetuate such a dangerous scheme yet not end up in prison for life. Its like this joke that the critic is gay came full circle to also keeping the gang safe from prison.
Maybe Im reading too much into it? Frank is so loaded he might be able to buy awesome attorneys to help them when their schemes go sour. But this is a theory I had and wanted to share hear.
I have another theory about the episode "Mac is a Serial Killer" and how it relates to the gang being able to consistently go to Guginos that fancy Italian restaurant after all the outbursts they have done in that place! I'll post that theory another time. : )
