What current rappers would get Legendary status if kiled

Like Pac and B.i.g.

also would Pac and Biggie be considered legendary of they were still alive now, or would they sort of dissapear like Jay z and Nas.

Basically its the time you die Snoop lost some of the auora he had and if tupac and biggie didn't die at that time they would be in same catergory as snoop and Jay Z now.

Don't laugh but i would say 50 cent after get rich or die trying dropped if he died then before the massacre, because its like a lot of people was liking him at that time. They would be left to wonder what would have been, same with biggie and tupac.

But that is just an example to show what i mean depends on the time period they died.

Some peoples opinions are so clouded it's embarrassing.

Now there is two ways to look at this. One is who would go down with legendary status if they were killed, and that list is extensive. Then there's the list of who would go down with legendary status and able to get a film like Biggie did (and Tupac will).

There is rappers like Scarface, Big Daddy Kane, Outkast, KRS One, Rakim amongst many others would would definietely go down with legendary status if they passed away.

As for rappers if they passed away, they could get a biopic and heavy promotion and are able to sell, it would be the following.

Biggie - Already done.
Tupac - Will be done soon.
NWA (including Eazy, Dre, Ice Cube) - In the works.
Jay-Z: Not sure if it would sell heavily.
Nas: Same as above.
Eminem: 8 Mile probably takes the chance away, but definitely could do something else and sell heavily.
-----------------
Those 5 without doubt.
Then there is a few maybes, such as Public Enemy who could potentially sell. Same goes for LL Cool J and Snoop Dogg.

Absolutely no others.

Snoop, Ice-Cube, Eminem, And Dre

Say it again for cheap seats. Dre is already a legend. Whether he died or retired, his legacy is there. Same with Ice Cube. It's not like they are average artists who will become the "greatest" because of their death. Throwing out names like Dre, Cube, Snoop, feels pointless. They are already major stars and while their deaths might bring a new level of interest, they have already cemented their reputations.

50 Cent, but he isn't that good or popular any more! He was awesome back when Get Rich and The Massacre came out!

reply

Eazy-E is a legend to, yeah I know he's dead.

reply

not any rapper would get legendary status if dey was killed. Look at Proof Pimp C big L left eye ODB and easy e. All dem died but they dont get the cred and legendary status that Pac & Big get. They are like tha poster boyz for slain MC's. Even JMJ and Scott la Rock don't get the legendary status. I mean they legendary to those who are part of tha hiphop culture but thats about it no one knows them but everyone knows Pac & Big.

Rappers that would get Legendary Status if Killed*
1. Nas
2. Common
3. KRS-One
4. Lil' Wayne he would get legendary status cuz of his huge fanbase and his good tracks that are true to hip hop that he didn't make for the radio that would get edited into his posthumous albums that would then make him legendary. anddddd the fact that he's been making songs for a full decade (since 99 i think.)
5. The Game
6. 50 cent Cuz from 2000-2005 he WAS hip hop (evn tho he sucks)
7. Mos Def & Talib Kweli
8. DMX
9. AZ his death would be like that of Big L. Only those who know would appreciate him
10. Ludacris the pac/big of the dirty south
11. Jay-Z almost forgot but he's already legendary
12. Kanye Teddy Bear West
13. everyone else wit dope lyrics+ dope beats+ popularity

reply

no particular order:

emienm
jay-z
nas
the game
t.i.
ludacris
lil wayne (and he would deserve it, why the hate? because he's popular? and the previous poster is right, if he died they would be able to make more post death albums than pac)
dr. dre
kanye west
ice cube
andre 3000 (possibly big boi)
busta rhymes
snoop dogg

also, good point at the beginning BLT except i think big L does have legendary status in many circles.

reply

Theres hate on Lil Wayne because he's wack. Popular, yes, but wack.

There are three types of people in this world- People who can count, and People who cant...

reply

Well, Ice Cube, Ice-T, Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg are already at "Legendary" Status because of their PR machines and multi-media exposure.

And maybe it's the lyrical elitist in me, but most of the ones out today (all the "Lil" dudes or the guys with jacked up spellings for their name) just can't compare.

reply

I can't believe some of you people are mentioning Lil Wayne...and are serious about it. He is absolutely horrible. His popularity doesn't make him great and he will never go down as one of the greatest ever. I could name dozens of rappers better than him(past and present).

I also can't believe some of you are saying Jay-Z, Nas, Dre. etc. as well. They're already legendary, they just happen to still be in the game. No current rappers that aren't already veterans aren't worthy of legendary status if they happened to die at their peak(which is still mediocre garbage).

reply

Nas & Jay are legends.

reply

Yes they are.

The only two I can think of are those two guys and Eminem.

reply

if Eminem died after "the eminem show" or even "the marshall mathers LP" he would have gotten legendary status, even thou he has already

They've done studies, you know. 60% of the time it works, every time.

reply

Q-tip, maybe?

reply

Hell yeah theyd be legendary if they were still alive, what kind of question is that? Sure, the deaths hyped them even more but they would be legendary either way.

And did you really say that Jigga has disappered? i find that hard to believe since he just released another #1 album at age 39, Jay is still the greatest rapper ALIVE no doubt.

R.I.P. "The King" You are missed!

reply

Eminem, Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, LL Cool J
Wu-tang Clan Aint Nuttin' to F' Wit

reply

anyone think its mad funny how the guy who started this thread said Jay-Z sort of disappeared. I'm not even a big fan but look at how blueprint 3 blew up ironic i guess.
either way im more of an underground hip-hop head but i listen to everything. NAS is considered legendary to me. in the same level as big and pac. yeah flame me whatever i dont care. otherwise i dont know if anyone else could be considered. i'd love to see a Q-Tip biopic. would be dope.
one thing i wonder is why Big L didn't gain a sense of status like big and pac? he was dope but yeah i guess his limited material held him back, or maybe there wasnt room to embrace 2 hip hop legends in NY. funny thinkin i was 7 when big died.
but to go along with what people said just dying doesn't make people legendary. only real hip-hop heads were devastated...or even noticed....or even knew, when Jay Dee died. *beep* sucks but thats how trends are.

I could see a Jay-Z biopic being made but I'm whatever about that.

everyone from Wu-tang, eminem, dre, cube, snoop, and Nas are all aready legends in my eyes.

As far as young rappers making records right now (in no particular order)

1. lupe fiasco (Basically everything out from him so far is dope)

2. kanye west (808 and heart breaks wasn't my favorite but College Dropout is one of my favorite albums of all time. Plus he has already made himself such an image in the publics eye that he will certainly become iconic of todays hip hop in the future)

3. lil wayne (Now let me first say that I HATE lil wayne. When people compare him to the greats like nas, 2pac, biggie, etc it drives me nuts. He sounds like he's on drugs and his metaphors are elemantary at best. That being said he was on basically every single that came out this year, he's released a very well recieved album and even followed it up with a mixtape that many worship. The *beep* drives me nuts but for every anti-weezy fan there are 100 more on his nuts, so he's creeping his way to legendary status.)

reply

Talib Kweli
Common
Mos Def
Eminem
Kanye West
T.I.
Andre 3000
Lil Wayne (even though I hate most of his work)

reply

WOULD:
Snoop Dogg
Ice Cube
Lil' Wayne
Lil' Kim
Kanye West

NOT:
Eminem
Flo-Rida

Hey Jin! You better not be cheating on me!!

reply

Yamichik, Eminem is as good as, or better than everyone that you just listed.

reply

Lil' Wayne
Flo Rida

People may laugh at Lil Wayne's name but people denying it are obviously out of line what everyone thinks.

Lil Wayne is considered to be one of the best rappers around at the moment, with the exception of Jay Z. His lyrics are great, and look at how popular he is. He is very popular in the US, less here in the UK but his fan base is only just starting to grow here in the UK.

If he were to die, believe me, he will be seen as a legend, and his posthumous singles would be huge.

Well, like it's already been said, a rapper who is already a living legend isn't gonna 'get' legendary status after being killed because they already own it. If Jay-Z died tomorrow, headlines would be something like, say... "Legend of Hip-Hop: Jay-Z, killed". His legendary status would just be cemented.

For a current rapper to get legendary status after being killed they'd have to be sorta fresh but still at the top of their game, so there's a slight element of curiosity surrounding them. They'd have to be amazing so that there'd be an undoubtable assumption that, (said rapper), would have delivered plenty more amazing stuff had their life not been cut short. Coz a sense of loss creates legendary status.
I'd say it'd also have to be a rapper whose music holds some meaningful messages, so people can look back and say, "damn, what a shame we didn't get to see, (said rapper's), musical career unfold, because that cat had wise words, he was a poet", etc... lol.

I'd say T.I., maybe. And, maybe... Lupe.
