Frankly, i like a good joke. Even if it is aimed right at me. I'm your run of the mill white guy, i've never lamented my "inability" to make bun of black folks Inability that doesn't even exist 'cause i joke around with my friends all the time. I neither use, nor desire to use, the word *beep* because it is too close in my mind to another word that i just plain don't like.
Another thing, i think people really should study up on history on all sides (in this thread it appears to be mostly white people, though there is no way to be sure), luckily there were a few people around to correct them.
As for President Obama. I like him a lot. I voted for him, and feel that that vote was not wasted. I think he's doing an admirable job, considering the dog's dinner the previous *ahem* "President" handed him. I've long felt that the future of both political parties lies in looking beyond the men's club of old white males and to the rest of the possibilities. It's the individual candidate that counts, and just because the candidate is Black, or Latino, or Asian, or female (or a combination between that last one and the previous three). Of course White people should still be in the mix, but until 2008 it's been exclusive and that is silly.
Marriage is a wonderful institution, but who wants to live in an institution?
